That's one pool I wouldn't be swimming in

Seem like a horrible idea, based on every abandoned quarry I've been to. Really deeeeep water and questionable swimming. Plus this one is in china, so there is probably so much lead and hg in there I wouldn't want to be near it.

Thanks for being specific.  I would have assumed you meant Shanghai, Manitoba.

Where others just saw a hole in the ground, he saw the opportunity to convince people to throw their money down it.

Those whacky Chinese!

The Chinese have clearly joined the "fark you" money club.

Well, it looks like smoebody peed in the communal Fark coke bottle this morning.

I for one think it looks farking awesome, and if it looks even remotely like the renderings, I want to stay there.

It looks cool, but I can't help think of those insane megamalls they built that are completely empty of people.  Think Mad Max in the hotel lobby.

Never cease to amazed me here on Fark that anything China related would automatically trigger tons of negative comments.
Three things constant of Fark that is a guaranteed to generate these responses is anything police, Christianity and China related.

........so when is this hotel going to collapse and kill a bunch of dog eating commies?

It reminds me of 'Everytown  2040' from the motion picture "Things To Come".
It's on YouTube. Check out 0:00:27. Blooper!

Well, China deserves any scorn we can muster up.

Why such an expensive hole? Well, it goes all the way down to somewhere nice.

More of a pit than a cave...

I'm trying to figure out the location naming. Is it near this...?

To be fair the last Bond film felt more built than directed

The water won't look pale blue like in the renderings, unless they dye it.  It will look brown and stagnant.

It's gorgeous, but every quarry I've ever been to had heinous pollution problems and smelled like Rosie O'Donnell's taint sweat after a marathon.

If you dig deep enough you will get to... wait, that's not right.

Also, no sunlight.

First earthquake and the hole will be filled in... with guests.

Looks like a design project from someone who flunked their A-level studios in architecture school.

Seriously, people get paid to draw up that crap?

I think it would be cool.  Maybe I will take a trip to Shanghai in 2017. (2 years to bake in)

What you both miss is that the quarry is there already, and has no lake. It will be a manmade lake with a manmade waterfall, and will be no harder for them to keep clean (and whatever color they want) than any other manmade water feature in Vegas or anywhere else. We're not talking a natural lake with a natural ecosystem living in it. We're talking, essentially, a swimming pool with an unusual shape and location. Chemicals and a filtration system will keep the water clear, and the color will be seen to with lighting and the pool's structure.

And I don't recall the last time I was in a hotel room, and I said "Man, I wish there was more sunlight in here." Daylight is sufficient, and there will be plenty of that, between the windows and the collossal skylight. Sunlight in a hotel room is not something I want, and it won't be needed to keep their lake clear either.

BTW, I'd like to point out to the dummies at News.com.au that there is no such thing as "Tianmenshan Mountain". It is either "Tianmen Mountain", or "Tianmenshan". That is, unless you think it is called Tianmen Mountain Mountain. Shan means mountain.
