Reminds me of the T-Wolves signing Brandon Roy last season.
Except David Kahn was the only one lining up to do that.

Sadly for Wolves fans, I don't think that even makes the blooper reel of Khan farkups.

For no money it is probably a good gamble.

Nobody believed me when he was drafted by the Blazers that he was going to be the next Sam Bowie.

I stand proud with my prediction.

The Sixers have the most experience with this, thus the best fit.

The reason the Blazers aren't pursuing Dwight Howard is his inability to stay on the disabled list.

My thought as well.

Nah, they've got Noel's injury already on the table this year. Maybe next year.

Has not played since 2009. Bring him on for the bare minimum during the summer league?

David Robinson -- '87
Tim Duncan -- '97
Greg Oden -- '07

Make it happen.  Instant Hall of Famer, therefore and what not.

Honestly, if Roy's knees weren't made of jello, the Blazers still could have whiffed on Durant and at this moment be one of the better teams in the West, hands down.

That was the bigger blow.

Boston wants to rebuild, starting with Greg Oden? Fark no, this guy will not be the Second Coming of Bill Walton. Besides, Walton came into a great situation as a missing piece, not as a focal point.

Ainge, you idiot do not go after Oden.

I guarantee you that one day there will be an illness or injury called Greg Oden.
He'll join stars like Lou Gehrig.

What's the downside for Boston?  If he gets injured, no big deal.  It's not like they were trying to win a ton of games anyway.  If he stays healthy and realizes his potential he's a franchise center.  I mean, don't throw the guy a max contract for four years, but for a reasonable amount this is an easy choice to make.

/Yes, I understand the odds he will end up being a superstar are terrible.

Ugh, and one of the things Wolves fans harped on McHale for most... was trading Roy for Randy Foye.
McHale leaked to the media that team doctors gave him the "red light" on Roy's knees... that did not wash with Wolves fans when Roy was still an All-Star.
As penance, we got 4 years of David Kahn. Oh, and we got to have Roy on the team after all!

//not that McHale didn't make boneheaded moves

Oden sounds like another write off that ends up suiting up for my Spurs and has a career. PLEASE OH PLEASE...

Oden might still have something to offer. He came back from injury too soon and was being pushed too hard so he went home and said he would try and come back when he feels fully fit.  There was little doubting his ability to play basketball other than his fitness.

He is worth a shot as he will be cheap and has potential to be an impact player.  Look how much centers are being overpaid right now. If he was a guard then he probably doesn't make it back but since you can't teach height he is worth a shot.

I know, just read it. I don't know what to think. Its a lot of money for a guy who got sonned in the finals. Hopefully the front office knows what they are doing.

Yeah, but at least Bowie salvaged a little of his career by the end.

No.  Sam Bowie was a decent NBA player.  He was in the league for 11 years (could have been more), averaged over 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game.  He was a solid big man and played in over 500 games.  The problem was were he was drafted and more importantly who was drafted after him.  If Bowie had gone pro in 83 or 85 or been selected after Jordon (and possibly Barkley) he would have been considered a solid pick.  His problem was less of what he did but more of what the guy behind him (Jordan) did.  Bowie played almost as many games (79) in his rookie year as Oden has in his five year "career" (82). Oden is so much worse the Bowie.

I think it's an OK contract.  It feels like the standard 25%-35% overpay that goes to centers, but I don't think we should let the Finals over-influence how we view his game.  When Miami's that dialed in a lot of players look bad (i.e. James Harden the previous year).

it is the Spurs, so they get more benefit of the doubt than other teams.

As for Oden, all Miami needs him for is May and June.

Sam Bowie had a half-way decent career when he was actually playing.

Greg Oden was one of the worst NBA basketball players I have ever seen in my life, and I say that as someone who was excited when the Blazers drafted him.

He often played smaller than his size... minus, of course, shooting, ball-handling, or any other ability. He was pretty good on defense, but he committed more fouls (some of which were due to reputation, or lack thereof, it seemed) than he had decent offensive possessions in his career. Literally, he could have stood wide open under a basket and, for good reason, Blazers players would pass the ball elsewhere or hold onto the thing.

Faddy: There was little doubting his ability to play basketball other than his fitness.

Actually, his DESIRE to play basketball was, and in my opinion still is, a bigger hindrance. He wants the paycheck, but he doesn't want to f*cking earn it. And when things don't go his way, he'll blame everyone else.

He honestly never gave a shiat until he was run out of Portland with his millions of dollars. And even then, it's now a significant amount of time later and we're only finally discussing him possibly joining a team.

So based on his height and your assumption that he is "frail", you wouldn't save him from burning alive? Great guy!
