(Huffington Post)   Mitt Romney didn't want to run for president, and 9 more of the 12 family members he polled also thought it was a bad idea. However, sons Tagg, Bapp, and Foinsapp convinced him it was a good idea   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 22

That is such fng revisionist history. Mitt was elected as Governor of Massachusetts in 2002. By 2004, he had taken a HARD right turn, reversing his opinion on choice, gay rights, stem cell research and taxes.

It was very clear that he considered being our governor a stepping stone to the Presidency.

Which is sort of sad, considering how hard he had to work at getting the Governor's seat. Then again, for Romney it was less about the office, but more about the power to swing dollars into the right hands, which has been his MO for a good number of years. Romney has never been one to lead, so much as bird dog cash, and steer said dollars into the hands of those who put him in front. From the UMaine board days, to the Olympics, to the Governor's seat, the one true sign for his leadership has been "For Sale."

Motherfarker, what is this shiat that he "didn't want to run?"  When 9 out of 12 members tell you it's a bad idea, and you run anyway, you want to run.  He's was just a core-less, undisciplined politician who ran a shiatty campaign and is still in shock that  his information vacuum was wholly inaccurate.

"I didn't really want to run for President," said the guy who did virtually nothing but run for President... for over 9 years.

No.  Mitt Romney's problem has been, and will be, that he wanted to prove that he was a better politician than his father.

The man has some serious daddy issues.

If this is to be believed Romney took on this odious task because he believed that he needed to save the country from itself.  The arrogance is mind-boggling.

Given that R-Money is a massive narcissist, I find it hard to believe that he didn't want to be President.

Over the Christmas break of 2010, Mitt Romney and his family took an internal poll on whether he should run for president once more. Twelve family members cast ballots. Ten said no. One of the 10 was Mitt Romney himself.

THEN WHY THE FARK DID YOU HAVE A VOTE?!?!?!

Seriously, what's the point of having the family vote if you're going to let 1/5 of the voters make the decision for you, even to the point of going against your OWN choice?

This just makes him look even stupider.

BTW Subby, didn't realize that Foinsap was a Don Martin/Mad Magazine thing. Nice call.

So, at Christmas 2010 he didn't want to run for president.

So why did his book tour from March of that year include a signing and a speech in Iowa? And why did he pretty much live there in 2007 - visiting all 99 counties? Just for fun?

This family poll was from late 2009 (read TFA).

Romney IS a narcissist, though - it was only once he determined that the prospective 2012 primary field wasn't up to par did he heroically sublimate his own desire to be left alone to mount a year-long campaign to lead the country for 4 years. Mitt Romney decided to devote 5 years of his life (possibly 9) to selfless service just because he didn't think the brain trust of Palin, Santorum, Cain, Gingrich, Bachmann, RONPAUL, Fred Thompson's letter opener, a stale Reagan fart and Bob Bennett could win a national election.

Thankfully, America agreed.

nmrsnr: To be fair, though, he did run his campaign as if he were deliberately trying to lose, so this does explain that.

He didn't write a concession speech, just to show them how much he didn't want to be running.

Kittypie070: Even up until the day before he made the announcement, he was looking for excuses to get out of it.

Holy sh*t.

THEN YOU SHOULDA MANNED UP, WILLARD AND SAID NO.

Not being able to man up and say no is a great attribute in a President.
