Not surprising.  Another old profession, that of arranging and designing shurbberies is an easy offshoot of this so called floristry.

Persephone was the goddess that symbolized the springtime -a time when seemingly dead things come back to life. It only makes sense that flowers would be on a grave. We hope that those that have passed from us will live on....

Either that or flowers are pretty.

While an ancient and time-honored tradition, now even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.

Or since prostitution was the oldest profession, they had to find something for gays to do in those unenlightened times.

Considering when they gave benobos "money," they practice prostitution. I would say it's a safe bet it really is the world's oldest profession.

Actually, i would assume that prostitution must be at least the second oldest profession, otherwise what are these women (and handsome European men) exchanging sex for?

I would really like that to be true, but it's not.  People started deliberately brewing when they found that grains stored in ceramic vessels will start to ferment if they get wet and are exposed to airborne yeast.  But you have to already have the harvested grains (and the ceramic vessels) before you can figure that out.  So farming had to come first, and brewing shortly after.  Brewing was an unintended, but beneficial side effect, rather than a cause, of farming.

I can see that.  Besides, with enough beer, your population is going to tend to grow, since now all the ugly people can get laid too.
