They are in charge for the moment.  What the military would do if Morsi says to use them is uncertain at best.

The military is telling Morsi to step down. They are not likely to be taking any orders from him right now.

Quite honestly a benign dictatorship would be a step up in a region that seems to have a disproportionate number of people who pride themselves on returning civilization to the dark ages. Problem is keeping it benign.

Religion just screws up fair governance horribly. The US has same problem really, just it's religious zealots haven't been quite as universally effective.

I agree.  Benign or not, it's easier for us the deal with than the crazies they have now (and they damn sure ain't benign).

I have it on good authority that if Morsi calls up his jetfighters, he'll tell them to drop their bombs between the minarets.

Universally... as in all the states under their control. Texas is a bit of a one off and even it has areas of it like Houston that really don't fit the totally under zealot control. More influenced than say Colorado or California but not entirely dictated to. If you compare Texas to say Iran as far as theocratic rules I think the difference gets very highlighted.

I'll take the bait. Regarding the whole pinky swear bit, if the Muslim Brotherhood isn't even backing ole Mossie whatever, then he's toast. It's quite possible they have sensed which way the wind is blowing or otherwise prefer not to associate with him (got their religion panties all bunched up or something).

That's great, Fark gobbled up the quote: "Muslim Brotherhood: There are attacks planned for later today against anti-government protestors, we condemn those attacks and we totally will have nothing to do with them, pinky swear
