Another case of rent-seeking behavior by a politician.

Damned hotshots, thinking they're so hot.  Unlike us salt of the earth silent majority just trying to get by on humble pie and brown shoes.

While this guy does sound like a douche, I'm not really connecting the dots on how the legal fees are a problem. I doubt he's representing the people he personally harassed.

It's not even that he personally harassed anyone. He was apparently involved in payments of "hush money" to women harassed by another legislator.

Now, this being the NY Post I wouldn't necessarily assume that the term "hush money" is being used accurately for whatever transpired.

All money is taxpayer money. The cocaine residue proves it.

Okay, re-reading TFA it looks like this:

-pervy old city councilman plays grabass.
-Leader of the council and good ol' boy arranges for taxpayers to pay the settlement.
-Same good ol' boy has his law firm represent the women being groped.
-All settlements are secret, despite promises to end that sort of rubbish.

Close! It's the state legislature instead of the city council.

And his firm represents entirely different women in unrelated sexual harassment cases.

Easy quick money to take a secret settlement for damages from being abused.
It is preferable to go after their personal fortune as a secondary lawsuit along with prison time. Even if you don't take all their stuff, it is quite interesting to see how they became multi-millionaires from a simple government job.

/Or how their kids and spouse got rich from 'investments' while he is penniless.
//If your lawyer forgot to mention his business dealings with the perv, bar him for one year as you will of been shived.

This is old news. as a life long new yorker I can say that this happens every couple of years in local politics so its not a big deal. New Jersey has its bribes and New York has its grab-assing. Big deal

And if we're being fair here, so do Republican-dominated states.  BSAB and whatnot.

It's sad and pathetic that this is the type of apathy voters start surrendering to.  Seems like those two states get the misery they deserve.

Oh yes. The terrible woe and agony that two of the richest states in the union experience.

Nowhere is the gap between rich and poor greater in the 50 states than in New York.

Somehow, despite all that wealth, despite the nice high state taxes (especially on the rich), despite the sky-high property taxes and gas taxes (to name a few), a healthily high sales tax, the nation's largest Medicaid program, a massive anti-poverty apparatus beyond that, epic spending on public schools, a thriving Democratic party (and a Working Families party for those who think a New York liberal Democrat just isn't liberal enough), and a virtually nonexistent conservative presence...the poor in New York are pretty much just as miserable as they'd be anywhere else in the country.

Actually they are worse off due to an extremely limited job market for them due to almost all the major factories in the state have left for better regulation states and NYC min wage is so high, few poor people can get jobs
