Wow, that school district can afford to have a PE teacher for elementary school? Good lord, next they'll be teaching art and music.

Goddamn union thug teacher taking a job that could be better performed by one of his students. How are those precious snowflakes gonna learn the meaning of hard work unless they get off their coddled asses a little bit? I bet this guy enjoyed his three-month vacation with those extra dollars in his pocket. He probably owns two refrigerators!

Shouldn't you be whining about unions and 'overpaid' teachers? What's gotten into you?

I don't complain about "overpaid" teachers.

There is nothing in this article about unions.

Why are you such a meany?

All I know is that teachers are socialists hellbent on destroying America with their unions, which means we have to give them all guns for some reason.

I had a gym teacher who wrote RAIDERS with a sharpie on the front of his plain sweatshirts.

He still holds the single game basketball scoring record at the University of Wisconsin.

RIP Mr Barnes.

Probably would've been epic if every teacher wore that shirt and sweater in their photos that last year.  Kind of like a homage to the old guy.

That's a cool story.  I can't keep the same job for more than a couple years without becoming totally bored with it.  I guess it takes a certain personality to stay in a job like that for 40 years and keep the same old clothes around.  Seems like he was a pretty nice guy, and I'm glad there are people like that as teachers.  I think most of us probably know teachers from our childhood who are still at the same school, doing the same thing they were 30 years ago.

Tenure, good benefits, a pension...if you want security you could do a lot worse.

I can't hammer on teachers for making decent money - but the cops and firefighters who pad out their overtime the last three years of their careers so that their pensions get goosed into the stratosphere? They need a smack.

It is an elementary school in North Texas which means it also has an Art teacher, music teacher and probably a string orchestra and after school choir and drama programs.

Who the fark is this guy, taking such a wad for being a glorified babysitter? You can sit kids down with a DVD of Veggie Tales and a Bible and they'd be fine. Total cost: $34.23.

Makes me wonder if that's salary or budget per employee, which would include benefits and etc.
I find it hard to believe that they would have 2x the average househould pay, could buy an average house with less than a year's pay, and still get up before 5am everyday to moonlight as a bus driver.

There was a video to watch that morphed from one photo to the next, for his entire career.

I'll be honest. If I had that series of pictures of myself, I'd probably get depressed because I got old.

I don't think my middle school gym teacher lasted 40 years, but he did wear the same outfit every day for at least 20, and I'm pretty sure he never washed it. Actually, I'm not sure he ever took it off.

b) someone was lucky enough to get a job out of college and keep it until they retire. Note to the chillens: That never happens anymore. If you ever find a job, good luck keeping it.
