Vodka Zombie: Headbangers' Ball, man!

THIS!

Used to watch every Saturday night when I was in 6th-7th grade. Riki Rachtman was a tool but for some reason he was still watchable.

Still remember they used snippets from Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power for the theme music along with images of car crashes and stuff. Ah, the memories of youth.

WarshCloth: VH1 still plays videos.

Jesus, I didn't know VH1 still existed either.  I guess this is my "Get off my Lawn" moment.

Dude....VH1Classic *rules*.  It started out being classic videos from the early MTV years, but Eddie Trunk's metal vision pretty much dominates the channel now.  That Metal Show is *very* successful, and Sam Dunn's documentaries play regularly, along with Metal Mania (metal videos) and lots of other metal related stuff.....concerts, etc.

I spend a lotta time on that channel, and not for nostalgia.

Don't you mean Prong's "Lost and Found"

The My Little Pony Killer: theflatline: Rapmaster2000: thecpt: At least it wasn't that one girl who won that contest... Jesse I think

An long-lost acquaintance told me a story about going with Jesse to the Clermont Lounge and Jesse at one-point disappearing only to be found later passed out with a needle and spoon in the back of a truck in the parking lot.  This was like 15 years ago when the Clermont wasn't a place where suburbanites would go to be "bad".  It was just bad.

Wasnt Jesse the flaming gay dude that I am going with idea Sascha Coens Bruno character was based on.

[cdn.buzznet.com image 500x365]

Jesse was this smirking asshole. Talked like a surfer despite never being shown anywhere near a beach (outside of Spring Break specials).

Wasent he the ahole they picked off the street to be a VJ? They had that big contest and widdled it down and ended up with him. I think I remember reading he was homeless and they bought him underwear.

And why the lack of lust for Daisy Fuentes. I had her calendar, it was faptacular.

Yep, Adam Curry.

The Prong song was the original theme music, but they started using Pantera around 92.

I still say MTV could make a flippin killing if they launched a channel they just played the tapes from the beginning and cut in new commercials. Hell that would take care of my big screen party needs for the next decade.

When I was stationed in Hawaii, you could tune in MTV on FM radio, so you didn't have to listen to the videos on the crappy $2.00 speakers most TV's came with. It synced right up. MTV used to be so cool.

Killer Cars: As I said in another MTV thread, while the network became an utter joke by the late 90s and is even worse now, I don't think any one of us would be watching it as much as we once did if it actually played music videos with any consistency. There's too many different methods to expose ourselves to, and consume music nowadays.

As obvious by the fact that not many people are aware that Viacom owns a channel that still does.  And you're right, no one watches it.

In other news, MTV "Vee Jays" need to get work somehow, so they write self-scandalizing books? WTF?

I remember MTV from college days. I didn't have cable TV when I grew up, but when I got to college in the late 80s I watched some of it and was like "umm, waht's the deal here?" It was good but not great. Then sometime around 1992 it spawned the reality TV genre with "The Real World" which people quickly discovered wasn't "real" at all. And now we're stuck with Honey Boo Boo and some biatch Gosselin and her half-breeds.

Kennedy was pretty... until she started talking and her crazy started coming out. That says a lot for a VJ. She was hardly in the "Golden age" of M-TV more the decline.

You are totally "get off my lawn", because, most Top 10 pop songs have videos made for them still.

Well, I don't pay attention to pop songs, but the metal acts I listen to make some videos.  Kamelot, Within Temptation, Epica, they make some good videos.

Recently produced Promovideos?

Soundgarden  Been Away Too Long (sorry, only available in Vevo format)
Alice in Chains  Hollow (same as above).

Notice a connection. Videos without band members (Yeah...o.k....sure so R.E.M. was doing it for the majority of their promovid-producing career. but still...I've a point maybe. I just woke up after not being asleep nearly long enough after being awake for far too long).

Also think Kennedy's an obnoxiously toxic right-wing tool fool.

Also lived close enough to the Canadian borner during the 1990's to view MuchMusic with some regularity. My takeaway from those days: An everlasting love for the music of Sloan.

^ Read this book if you want to know the real story behind how it all started (including the handful of times it was nearly killed during conception) up to how it became the sh*tshow it is now (hint: greedy control freaks).

At least to interesting anecdote (usually starting at Rated R and progressing quickly to XXX) on damn near every page.

Oh, and Martha was the closet wildchild. Nina was the one who put on the sex-kitten act but went home every night to here apartment full of cats.

I'm guessing the insult was the other way around.  Kennedy was a hardcore Young Republican.  She liked to show off her tattoo of the GOP's elephant mascot.

According to the book I mentioned in my OP,  the VJ's were cast by type. Quinn was cast as and supposed to be the one to fill the role of "Virginal Girl Next Store" while Blackwood was the "Marlene Dietrich-esque sex-kitten" Well, a year in, Quinn is dating punk rockers (Stiv Bators of the Dead Boys) and Blackwood (according to the unofficial "Sixth VJ" [a glorified P.A. who was tasked with being their gopher and all-around-manservant in the studio and elsewhere]) was the turn-the-sexuality-on-and-off-like-a-light-switch-depending-on-whether -the-red-light-is-on-on-the-camera-in-front-of-me type.]
