Shining light on a boring non-sport does nothing to change it from being a boring non-sport.

Running it at night would probably cause even more problems for attendance

I don't know, sitting in the Indiana summer Sun for 5 hours is what has stopped me from going to the race. The addition of lights in Daytona increased the July race's attendance.  It might work.

Didn't know that about Daytona. I figured most of the people who go during the day on Sunday wouldn't necessarily want it to run real late so they don't have to take a day off of work. Then again, most of my friends and I usually took that Monday off when we got older because we wanted to have a good time at the race.

Hey, Jeff.  The light from the fires of the cars crashing should be enough.

Um, night races are held on Saturday and not Sunday.

So they would run the sprint car races up a day or the same day as the Brickyard?

Wrong, I don't follow baseball.  Just calling a spade a spade... driving a car is not a sport.

First off, it's not the Brickyard 400, it's the Crown Royal Presents the Samuel Deeds 400 at the Brickyard Powered by BigMachineRecords.com.  Secondly, the problem is that Indy doesn't have proper banking when compared to a normal NASCAR track.  Running in the hot sun is about the only thing that keeps those cars on the pavement - run at night when it's cold and the race will go right back to single-file "follow the leader'.  You might as well be watching a Formula 1 snoozer.

Threads about racing suck if its not an actual race thread. We get the not a sport troll comments and there will be a Danica bikini pic any minute.

You know what would make the cup race at Indy better? Not having a cup race at Indy.

I was gonna say have them run a quarter of the race as usual, then put them in IndyCars for another quarter, then F1 cars on the road course, and then finally just have them all go on the road course but put 1/3rd of the drivers in stock cars, 1/3rd in IndyCars and 1/3rd in F1 cars, making sure that Jimmie Johnson is one of the drivers in a stock car..

How about make it a Sprint Cup doubleheader? Night race on the oval on Saturday followed by a day race on the F1 road course on Sunday? Show your skills garage boys.

How about putting it on the road course?

The road course at Indy is a piece of crap. Even  MotoGP is boring on the roval.

Speaking of MotoGP, two more weeks!!!

Put the lights on the cars Lemans style and race all day and all night.

A while back there was some serious consideration given to a few ideas to help celebrate what the Speedway refers to as the Centennial Era, spanning the 100th anniversary of the facility opening (2009), the 100th anniversary of the inaugural 500 (2011) and the 100th running of the 500 (2016).

One of those ideas was to put lights around the facility and contract either ALMS or Grand-Am to run a 24-hour event on the road course. Instead, we got a 3-hour race tacked on to the front end of the Brickyard weekend.

Nailed it.
