UFO = object that's up in the air and cannot be readily identified.
UFO =/= alien spacecraft from another world or time

Well, to be fair, if an alien spaceship from another world or time was up in the air an could not be readily identified, it would be a UFO.

Nooooooo not my priceless cd collection!!!!

My favorite: "...but flying saucer experts say it could have been a UFO."

That one phrase is so full of stupid it hurts.

WhippingBoy: Well, to be fair, if an alien spaceship from another world or time was up in the air an could not be readily identified, it would be a UFO.

Unless it was falling. Well, I guess then it would still be a UFO.

This, a big pet peeve of mine. I was surprised TFA got it right.

AFO is awesome, he's the best when it comes to nearly unexplainable flying object sightings.  Seems to take the skeptics mind to it though I'm sure he's a true believer.

You do have a valid point, but I think that ST's point was that just because something in the sky cannot be readily identified, it does not automatically mean that it is an alien spacecraft.
When they were first testing out what became the SR-71, there were lots of people identifying it as a UFO because no aircraft at the time that people knew of could fly that high or that fast for that long.  When you add in that the CIA and indirectly, upper military brass told NORAD, as well as the military and civilian aviation authorities as the time to disregard any reports of high-flying, high speed aircraft showing up on their radar since it was a top-secret spy plane, it just added to the whole "government is denying alien spacecraft/UFO" business.

Government doing a lot of top secret stuff. Paranoid people seeing shiat in the sky. It's like the 1950's all over again.

While watching the video...weather balloon, weather balloon, bug, weather balloon, bug, cdr copy of boyz ii men's cooleyhighharmony....

By far the most intriguing UFO sighting had to be the relatively tiny object whizzing by the camera on a lonely road in Russia. Looking like some kind of RV toy,

But clearly NOT an RV toy!

/didn't even watch the video

2013-07-02 09:09:29 AM
The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

And, uh, oh - hire a decorator to come in here quick, 'cause... DAMN.

lol, I watched an episode of UFO Hunters once where they explained that most UFO sightings happen near military bases then proceeded to speculate why aliens were attracted to those locations.

/while they showed pictures of "alien votex's" that were clearly long exposure photos of aircraft going supersonic

Drones & weather baloons... as far as the eye can see.

Apparently, putting crap incidental music over the top of video footage of Chinese lanterns, meteorites, aircraft with their landings lights on, small flying Russian birds / bats on country roads and other photographic anomalies convinces the weak-minded that UFOs are space aliens.

Protip: These aren't the aliens you're looking for.

What a SHIAT website.

Heh, this. I was thinking "weather balloon, aerial flares, aircraft turning toward the opposite side of the volcano (you can actually see a little flickering light on it)....

But hey, UFOs, man.

2013-07-02 09:18:42 AM
some of those were pretty cool actually.

I've identified the UFO going into the volcano.

albertadiary.ca

He was going to his secret volcano lair surrounded by liquid hot mag-ma.

FTFA: Blobby lights in an inky night sky, shaky video skills and obvious Chinese lanterns are definitely out. To make the cut, AFO is holding to a higher standard.

And guess what the video is full of. Go ahead, guess.

Subby fails on several accounts.  First, Jean-Pierre Haigneré  is a former CNES astronaut, not NASA, and many NASA astronauts have talked about UFOs, i.e. Gordon Cooper, Dr. Edgar Mitchell, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, James Lovell, Frank Borman, Ed White and James McDivitt to name a few.

I don't see why you're surprised that actors would make things up.

The staff of RT need to be introduced to Father Ted Krilly. Tiny swallow, near the window, not vast UFO over the city.

/facepalm

I thought that looked the most like some man made object tumbling in the wind.  It looked like a miniature hot air balloon slinging it's basket all around.

Our government can't even keep the secret that they are spy on their own citizens and those of other nations including our allies and people are really going to believe the government could keep UFOs or more over an alien presence under wraps? The government could even keep the top secret programs secret for as long as they have supposedly keep the alien presence secret.

They haven't been able to keep it under wraps. There's all kinds of very credible government and military employees which have gone on the record. The public is just easily manipulated into ignoring it all.

They haven't been able to keep it under wraps. There's all kinds of very credible bitter attention-seeking ex-government and military employees which who have gone on the record sold their bullshiat to make a buck. The public is just easily manipulated into ignoring it all because it's lies and nonsense and they're sick of listening to these whackos.
