The joke is, storm surge doesn't give a crap what you put in front of it. A wall of water 6 feet high and 100 miles square will laugh at anything short of a concrete seawall. I'm sure you taxpayers will appreciate knowing that you spent $3.2 million dollars to rebuild the sand dune in front of our house on the West End of Galveston only to see it flattened in less than 6 months by a half-assed little tropical storm. We had a 100 foot wide, 10 foot high dune before Tropical Storm Allison in 2001`that just rolled over under the house and covered the slab.

The dams on the Colorado and Brazos Rivers have stopped most of our sand accretion and subsidence is lowering the ground level, so the lesson is: "Don't put anything on the barrier island you can't afford to lose"

A great folk song:

"It was the year of 1900 that was 80 years ago
Death come'd a howling on the ocean and when death calls you've got to go
Galveston had a sea wall just to keep the water down
But a high tide from the ocean blew the water all over the town..."

Gyrfalcon: Or you could just stop building jetties and dredging the outer channels, let the sand build up by itself where it belongs.

Just a thought.

Ate you asking civilization to obey the natural order of things? It sounds like you're asking civilization to obey the natural order of things.
