17 days and 17 long nights.  That's rough when all you have are two cigarettes and a broken heart, and the rain is coming down.

Maybe....the medical professionals that attended to her would be able to say for sure.    If she was found after 17 days and was nourished and relatively healthy, maybe shenanigans......clinging to life......then she likely really was trapped all that time.

Yeah - a good lesson i how we shouldn't take all news stories at face value though.

Either this guy is lying or she really didn't survive for 17 days in the collapsed rubble.

And when she was rescued I heard varying accounts of what happened.  One news source said she had no food or water. Another said she had no food, but got water from a leaky pipe and yet another news source said she had a little bit of food and a limited amount of water.

They can't all be true.

I take everything I read or hear about with a grain of salt and I'm not even sure if the salt helps - that is probably an old wive's tale.

If I didn't see it, I can't be sure it actually happened.

The rule of three, generally you can last three minutes, three days and three weeks without air, water, and food. In that order.

But those are rough guidelines, not hard fast "rules".

You can only live about 3 days without water. I was wondering about that when her "rescue" was reported -- but being gullible, I just figured it must have been a leaky pipe or something.

You can't survive more than 3 days without water. You can go 3-4 weeks with no food, much longer on a very small amount of food. If she didn't have water, there's no way.

Bottom of a collapsed factory would likely have a lot of broken pipe. As for her clothes, she was in a garment factory that collapsed. Story I read said when she realised she was going to be rescued, she replaced her torn clothes with new ones so she wouldn't be half naked in front of men.

I don't care one way or another if she faked it or not.

IIRC, it was after the world pointed out this little lack of water problem that the story of the leaking pipe came out. Yet her face has only dry dust on it. No smears, as you would expect from water mixing with the dust. So her mouth must have ended up perfectly positioned over the crack in the pipe. Or else it never happened.

So she had enough room to actually wander about selecting outfits just before her rescue? Enough room to find clean clothes, from amongst the piles of rubble, and culturally appropriate clothes as opposed to whatever children's wear or cheap tee-shirts the factory was making. That was lucky.

Makes sense that she'd also be keeping her face clean and the lip balm refreshed while she was at it. Wouldn't want to come out looking all covered in streaky dirt with cracked, dry lips like some ordinary survivor after a building collapse. Couldn't expect to get a better job looking like that.

um, how hard is it to work your way into some rubble?
have you never seen a collapsed building? especially a concrete one, there are usually all sorts of larger chunks and panels of debris that make for a network of little warrens to crawl through deep into a rubble field. masonry buildings are a lot tougher to find voids in, and a lot less stable, but concrete is total easy mode.
