The new Pope is following through with threats to audit the Vatican's finances and resulting in arrests and resignations of high-ranking officials. It looks like the end result might be the Vatican cleaning house.

The Prophecy refers to the end of the Church.

No it isn't. Like the Shroud of Turin, that's just another hoax.

Let's be honest: The bank IS the Church. It's all about money and power.

I get the feeling that when they try there will be some divine intervention.  Or the pope will pull out his pistol and blow a hole through their forehead large enough to paddle a canoe through.

The two other men arrested on 28 July have been named as Giovanni Maria Zito, who is described as an Italian secret service agent, and Giovanni Carenzio

They wouldn't dare.  If any harm comes to Pope Francis, he dies a martyr, and those who hurt him will be totally destroyed.  That's the "problem" with letting a popular reformer take the leadership of anything:  any attempts to remove them after the fact backfire horribly.

Perhaps Francis' actions will create a schism in the church and a Vatican insider (who is perhaps Peter the Roman) will be put up to replace him.   Francis will act as an anti-Pope leading a worldwide investigation into the misdoings of the church while 'Peter the Roman' tries to gather supporters in the Vatican to protect them and the church from investigation (sheltering his sheep through tribulations).  In the end Francis is able to bring charges against many lifetime Vatican insiders, and the structure of the Vatican and central governance of the church as we know it is forever changed (the city of the seven hills ends up referring to the Vatican instead of all of Rome, and the terrible judging is those that covered up multiple church misdeeds being held accountable for their crimes by actual judges).

The Vatican is a farking cesspool of corruption that has been running unchecked for years. The more if these farkers they can weed out and get rid of the better.

Didn't many of the Central and South American clergy have trouble with the Vatican(and a couple of Republican administrations who shall remain nameless) because of their strong support of social justice? I am an atheist and ex-Catholic, but as I said in another thread about the new guy...I like this Pope.

Wait.  Wrong question.  Actually, no, that one still stands.  But what does God need with a shiatpile of money, a bunch of sweet-ass houses, 24k gold leaf on 80% of all the shiat He 'owns', and a starship?

Funny thing is, I think Frank's got the same question.

Protecting kiddy diddlers and orchestrating international banking fraud from the uppermost echelons. Is there anyone who can seriously argue that the Catholic Church is anything other than a massive criminal conspiracy?

Incorrect. The arrests weren't a result of any internal investigation, Italian police did it.
