He's arguably the best active racer in the world.

Bruce Campbell: He's arguably the best active racer in the world.

I have to agree.

That would have been _way_ cooler to watch if, you know, we actually got to _see_ it.

Instead, what we got was:

*30 seconds of talking heads discussing how awesome it is that they can do it live*

*5 seconds of car*

*30 seconds of talking heads, one with mic cut off*

*cut to interview with person who has just finished/is about to start course.  Name of course not mentioned*

*while interview is going on, talking heads start blathering about something else*

*3 seconds of what might be a car, shot through a telephoto lens on a helicopter that appears to be around another mountain.  2.5 seconds of this footage is glitched freeze-frame*

*10 seconds of talking heads sitting and staring at computer screens.*

*talking heads remember to talk, comment on how awesome Peugot is.  Casual mention that there's currently several ambulances on track*

*you know, if this was all working properly, there'd be this bar above my head telling you things like drivers, cars, and times!  Cool, huh?  But it's not.  And we think a driver just started, but we're not sure.  Maybe someone finished*

*commercial that is actually much more interesting and informative about the race than the race itself*

*hey looks, Loeb's done!  But we don't know what the time is*  (meanwhile, in the background and on their own Facebook/Twitter feed the time is being repeated over and over again, to the thousandths of a second)

*we think we have an interview wit Loeb coming up!*  (this goes on for 15 minutes.)

*well, anyways, once we talk to Loeb we're going to shut down anyways.  Bye now!*

Seriously the absolute worst 'coverage' of a sporting event that I have ever seen.  I appreciate the tremendous technical difficulties of trying to film a however-long winding mountain road, but that doesn't excuse them.  Yiou'd think the basics such as 'what camera is this' or, 'what our roving reporters names are' would have been covered at SOME point during setup....

I agree that you can plausibly make the argument.

But you could make an equally plausible argument he isn't even the best active guy named "Sebastian/Sebastien" at the moment.

At least Loeb has had his skills translated to a podium finish in another type of racing.  Which is why I think he could be the best right now.  I am saying this as a fan of Vettel, but put Vettel in another kind of car and see how he does.  They both need to be in one of those Race of Champions together.

The 205 T16 Group B car was a rocket and it looks like Peugeot has got its groove back.

yeah it was, especially if you messed with the downforce to make it fly. And the gear ratios to go from 0-200 in about 2 seconds.

Bloody hell. I've never actually watched the PPHC before... I had no idea the kind of balls it takes. Just seeing some of those narrow stretches with no guardrails and the huge drops...

And then to knock a freaking minute and a half off of the record? Insane.

/The guy doing under 10 minutes in an electric vehicle is pretty awesome, too.

Yep. Personally I enjoy watching the footage of the old runs with dirt more, but I would venture it takes an equal amount of balls to run it now given the fact that they're doing it so much faster now that it's all paved.
