Well, to be fair, I have far more respect for Snowden than I do Assange.

2013-07-01 02:27:25 PM
I'm torn between my admiration for Snowden and my utter contempt for Assange.

James?

I should be surprised that this whole mess is turning into a Lifetime special about fame-farking attention suckers, but I'm not.

Look Wikileaks may to some extent be a necessary and even good thing, but that doesn't change the fact that when you look up "self-aggrandizing Douche" in the dictionary, all you get is a picture of Assange

He is already his biatch. Assange now has free range to do as many illegal things as he wants and be protected by a Ecuador. At some point he'll do cause enough pain to their dictatorship that Assange will get kicked out and end up hanging in an American prison like he should be.

Dumbass tag? Well maybe, from the article it seems like some slick ambassadoring on the part of the U.S.

It's amazing that a leader of a nation doesn't like someone trying to go above his authority.

airsupport: James?

apologies I keep fricking doing that in headlines even though I know it's Edward and * I Know*, that for some reason as I type, my brain will always want to change it to "James"

WTF Indeed: He is already his biatch. Assange now has free range to do as many illegal things as he wants and be protected by a Ecuador. At some point he'll do cause enough pain to their dictatorship that Assange will get kicked out and end up hanging in an American prison like he should be.

Free range, eh?

2013-07-01 02:31:02 PM
Assange needs to shut the fark up.  What does he need to be involved in any of this, anyway?

2013-07-01 02:31:03 PM
To be fair to Ecuador, the US probably could fark their shiat up in all kinds of ways, just by the stroke of various pens. There's standing on principle, and then there's gratuitously sabotaging your whole damn country.

But not wanting to look like Assange's biatch is a far more compelling reason.

AeAe: Assange needs to shut the fark up.  What does he need to be involved in any of this, anyway?

Because he's an attention starved douchebag.

Not surprising that a rapist like Assange has no self control.

2013-07-01 02:32:01 PM
Wow, way to make yourself look like a farking weakling, Mr. President. "You're not the boss of me!!!"

Wasn't the U S threatening to cut the 10 million in aid we send to Ecuador? I know 10 mill isn't a lot for most countries but I believe it covers Ecuador's cable and part of the lectricity bill

2013-07-01 02:32:30 PM
I still don't see what the hate surrounding Assange is about.

Also, Ecuador today said they're considering kicking Assange out on the street as a result of his latest stunt.

2013-07-01 02:33:23 PM
In his defense. Countries were more afraid of threats when Bush was in office.  The government these days prefers playing kickball with a rabbit than threaten anyone. Much less act on it.

You're probably right, although if it's any consolation, the broom closet in the Ecuadorian embassy in London that Assange lives in at the moment is probably starting to look a little prisonish.

Yeah, when becoming a major public personage, it helps your case to not to look like you're the lead of a New Wave band.

Until they've pumped all the information they want out of him and then they'll willingly send him back or he'll be found to have killed himself with a few shots to the back of the head.

It looks like Ecuador finally woke up to its senses and decided not to mess with the only hyperpower in the world, the United States of America.  Perhaps it can be a two-fer and that the US gets both Snowden and Assange.

Assange is not a U.S. citizen and has never been to the U.S., and his position as publisher of leaked documents should be legally identical to that of the publisher of the New York Times. I fail to see how he "should" be in an American prison.

Correa is establishing himself as the most powerful leftist leader in SA. Since 07 he has consolidated a broken country, re-established international trade(mostly exporting oil to US). Ecuador is applying for membership in Mercosur, and defiantly opening up trade negotiations with China and Iran. We're not doing anything about it because we want their oil so Correa's symbolic denouncement of ATPDEA last week and this move(both using snowden, assange as a front) are his announcement that he is taking charge and making the case that he is the voice of SA.

Yeah, looked over the Assange stuff again; there's no reason to hate him like this.

2013-07-01 02:47:54 PM
So Ecuador chides Assange for AWing, and Assange calls two press conferences?

I can't wait to see how this all ends.

It's more like character suicide. The guy was more likeable before he started making TV appearances.

Fwiw, there's omething about Assange which gives me pause.  It's not because I disagree with what he did; there are plenty of people around whose views I don't share, but they don't provoke the same reaction.  I  just get the sense there's something not quite right about that bloke.  Can't explain the response, and I'll fully admit to that being totally irrational.

The first part of that option has already happened.  If he's floating around the airport, as most suspect he is, he's been debriefed already. The Russians are more than likely just fed up now, waiting for someone to take him off their hands.

He gives off a douchey vibe. It's hard to explain.
