Pretty sure most smokers will just laugh at this one.  I mean, if they still can.

But just imagine the reprogramming possibilities.  You could make a special pack for when a hottie asks for a smoke in a bar.  "Hey baby, wanna fark?"

Oh for farks sake just lay off the smokers. You don't see graphic gory photos of ruined livers on liquor bottles and alcohol kills more people than cigarettes and drunk drivers kill more people than supposed second hand smoke. Society is being awfully hypocritical to nag on one yet completely ignore the other. Just stop it. I swear I want to return to even 10 years ago when people weren't such pussies about everything.

If buying an $8 pack of cigarettes everyday and knowing you will most likely die from lung cancer doesn't make you give up, I don't know what will.

/Gave up smoking when I paid $6/day for a pack of smokes. $6 time 365 days = $2190 dollars a year.

Alcohol is an acceptable and preferential method of intoxication in America. It's because we're very puritan, and alcohol is immediately and severely self punishing.  It in itself encouraged moderation, so you don't puke/are still functional in the morning. So you'll never pry it from their cold hypocritical dead hands.

Why?  Seriously, why?

When asked "Who annoys you more, smokers or anti-smokers?" I answer "Anti-smokers."  At least smokers don't see it as their goal to get me to smoke.  They don't buy advertising space to tell me that I should be smoking.  For the most part, they let me be.  And for the most part, I want to be left alone from most groups, and if I want to be apart of a group, I will join it.

Anti-smokers, dear lord.  It's like everything they do is for attention and annoyance.   Sell tobacco, we insist you have this sign to let your customers know it will kill them.  Have a kid, this PSA will remind you that any moment of silence is a wasted moment to discuss the dangers of smoking.  Now they want computerized smoking packs to speak about the dangers of smoking when opened.  The giant warning labels aren't enough?  Do you think that the fact that there are smokers is reason enough to have these damn things?  And this means that it's only a matter of time until other groups start insisting on these chips.  The anti-junk food groups will want them.  Peta putting them in meat packages.  MADD chips in all alcohol containers.  That is where this will lead.

It will just drive more people to e cigs. Equivalent to two packs and no tobacco taxes since it contains no tobacco.

People like to pretend they use them as an aid to quitting, but the majority smoke just as much as before - they just do it cheaper and without the nasty warnings.

Exactly. There's a nice quiet spot next to my father's apartment building, that I make use of whenever I'm visiting him. I can see someone coming from blocks away.

They'll get within 50 feet (twice the distance you need to be away from public buildings), I'll leave my comfy spot, step off the curb and into the street, all to have them pass by me with a "CAUGH CAUGH HACK! ACK!! DEEEE-SGUSTING!!"

Back in 2008, I was riding an amtrak to visit family in Ohio. Two people (one was a dead ringer for Eric Burns of websnark) were having an animated discussion about literature, when one guy says "They stopped the train here for our break, but I don't see anywhere safe to stand for a cigarette"...

"Eric's" response? "You could stand right there, and hope a freight train hits you. You're killing yourself anyway, so why wait?"

"Eric" refused to say another word to the guy for the rest of the trip, where before they were entirely cordial.

As a smoker, I understand how unpleasant my habit can be around, which is why I take pains to make it as unbothersome as possible. If I'm allowed to smoke as a guest in someone's house, yet have a non-smoker around, I'm often the only person volunteering to step outside for my cancer stick.

But to people who are like the examples I cited, understand this: I have no respect for you. If you couldn't harass smokers, you'd be harassing blacks, or gays, or Jews, or women. It's just that smokers are the class of people safe for you to persecute.

It's so great to live in a nation where you can see an ad of a person with a hole in their throat to gross and scare you out of smoking, but it's illegal to see a naked pair of tits on television.

Last time I checked, there was a marked tendency to write down "smoking" as the cause of death when someone who happens to have smoked dies of something age-related or something tangentially related to smoking (fall asleep while smoking, slip-and-fall while having a smoke).  I've known people who had guff like that put on their death certificates.

Really? This will be useful because somehow, somewhere, there is still a smoker who has not already heard anti-smoking health warnings at least a thousand times?

I'm pretty sure all smokers know the risks by now, the poor sods have been told often enough already. It's the people who keep telling smokers the same thing over and over while expecting different results that are starting to look insane.

When I started vaping, I cut down on my smoking drastically, overnight, but it took awhile before I could get completely off the cigs.  What worked for me was going to a higher nicotine level.  I needed that to make the switch.  Later, it was very easy to cut down on the nicotine level a little at a time.  (And now I'm vaping with no nicotine at all.)
