C'mon, by Palin standards, "squinting really hard while looking at pictures" qualifies as "reading."

"You disrespect Hispanics with your assumption that they desire ignoring the rule of law."

I think the GOP really believes this -- I hear this logic all of the time.

They think that Latinos who legally immigrated are going to be outraged that the 11 million undocumented will get to become citizens without having to jump through all of the hoops they went through. How dare they have it easy!

This just reflects how vindictive GOP politicians are. It never occurs to them that the Latinos who immigrated legally might actually have a great deal of empathy for how hard it is to immigrate -- their emotional reaction to this issue isn't anger but sympathy.

Funny how Republicans keep claiming they can win over "Reagan Democrats" more than 30 years after Ronnie took office.

Guess what, GOP?

These mythical Reagan Democrats ARE NOW REPUBLICANS! By and large switched parties sometimes at some point during the last 30-odd years. You can't win large swaths of Democrats over any more. The latest political realignment due to ideological changes has solidified.  Until you come up with some new ideas, demographics and gerrymanderingare the game.

And good luck with that libertarian thing. The only thing your religious right base has in common with LibertarRANDians is strident, unwavering fervor that their way is right and righteous. Good luck getting them to agree on half of their core issues.

Well, there is also the fact that Hispanic people are more likely to claim to know illegal immigrants than the population at large, meaning they are more likely to know people who they feel should be given a chance to remain in the country despite their past actions.

That, and the whole "Hispanics should be mad at the illegal immigrants and not the government for being profiled and needing to justify being considered real Americans by us" thing really sours them on your party and makes them more likely to see these laws as anti-Hispanic rather than anti-illegal immigrant. I've known a few Puerto Ricans who have had issues with people demanding to see their green cards who have a bit of a chip on their shoulder about it..

Sympathy is certainly the reaction I encountered in Chicago.  Those who has their citizenship felt lucky to get it, and supported those who didn't.

Grungehamster:  I've known a few Puerto Ricans who have had issues with people demanding to see their green cards who have a bit of a chip on their shoulder about it..

I used to be one of those Puerto Ricans who'd get upset at people asking for my immigration status, or whether the money orders Papa EspiaBoricua used to sent me were drafted in "US Dollars" instead of "Puerto Rican Dollars"...

... until my campus pastor (one of the smartest people I've known) asked me on the basis of "I really don't know the answer"... then it dawned on me: what passes as "education" in Arizona (and Texas) is not enough to teach "the kids" any more about U.S. History than I learned in Puerto Rico in two semesters (one in high school, one in college)... so yeah, most people in the U.S. Mainland  are that naive... so I set up to educate them upon request. Path of least resistance and all that jazz.

The saddest part is that Mama EspiaBoricua (may she rest in peace), a dual-citizen of the Dominican Republic and the U.S. of A., knew more about U.S. History than a lot of people I've known in the U.S. Mainland thanks to that Citizenship Test they make the citizenship candidates take.

Conservative groups run these advocacy push polls with very loaded questions and then Republicans eat up the results in a frenzy of confirmation bias.

The article on WaPo cites two exit polls of Latino voters, showing north of 75% support for a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.  That's astoundingly high.

Anything that comes out of that Snake Oil Political Turd's mouth is not about politics, caring about the electorate, concern for the country or any of the things she claims are so near and dear to her heart. Instead (an as best as I can tell) it is about extending the cult of personality that allows her to remain relevant to whatever degree she feels is important. She is a political actor and is reading a script. One that is heavy on innuendo and light on fact. So when her claims don't add up or make sense, it should be of no surprise. If she thought she could score points drawing parallels between Star Wars characters and politics, she would. For now though, ringing the magic immigration bell is working just fine.

Of course, she gets plenty of help from the sycophantic press that she derides as the evil MSM. Time and time again, there she is making statements to the MSM and even appears as the occasional co-host on MSM shows, capitalizing on the opportunity to bolster her mythical "rogue" persona though completely run of the mill, white bread media situations. And it is not much of a stretch to figure out that all these appearances come with a price ($$$). Her schtick is to profit off people's angst and there is no shortage of willing audience members to the show.

She is a first class huckster.

Well, many of them have Ivy League educations if that's what you mean by 'smart'.  But when Bush wasn't fleecing rubes into voting for him, he was supposedly running a country.  All the Yale and Harvard degrees in the world can't save an imbecile from smearing feces all over our foreign and domestic policy.

I think some of the chicas are well-educated but fundamentally dumb, theofascist instruments of whoredom for Roger Ailes, the rest are just plain dumb.

Wouldn't "misread" indicates that she actually "had read" at some point?

This isn't about misread data.

It's about the GOP's position on Illegal Immigrant being essentially anti-immigrant and trying to cover that fact up by pretending that their position is based on solidarity with the legal immigrants who are being "disrespected" by the illegal immigrants not jumping through the same hoops they did. It's a lie with no basis in reality but it's still politically preferable for them to pretend that than to have to go out and say "Hey, look, we don't like you, we don't want you and if we had our way we'd ship you all out of the country but vote for us anyway".

Oh wait, I just remembered I can just ignore her.

Never mind.
