Everything about the trailers for that movie made it look like something you'll see in one of those big bins of cut-rate DVDs and Blu-rays really soon.

I saw This Is The End this weekend. Really funny.

Maybe if it didn't look like a movie that would be perfect for MST3K it would have made some money.

If I want to watch "Die Hard" I'll watch "Die Hard."

I'm starting to worry about Roland Emmerich. If he decided to make a Victorian period drama about the peccadilloes of former ladies' maids attempting to raise their status through marriage the script would still read "FADE UP FROM BLACK: The White House Explodes!"

Now I want to see an Emmerich-made Downton Abbey.

The trailer I saw this weekend removed any possibility of seeing this movie. It was basically every single rumor, joke, conspiracy theory, etc. of what's in the White House.

"I heard there are secret tunnels" *Cut to scene of them running through tunnels and explosions*
"What about the secret war room?" *Cut to scene of secret war room*
"Aren't there tennis and basketball courts here?" *Cut to scene of them driving through random courts*
"Can the president's limo really surive an RPG?" *Cut to limo suriving (and flying) after being hit by RPG*

What really did it though was the "No, the White House wouldn't explode like that. This isn't Independence Day" *Cut to "FROM THE DIRECTOR OF INDEPENDENCE DAY!"*

Sorry, my summer movie budget is reserved for Iron Man 3, Star Trek into Darkness, Man of Steel and Pacific Rim.  If the movie didn't look to be so by the numbers generic shiat that I've already seen done and done better by Arnold, Segal, Willis, etc... then I might have added it to my budget.

This movie does seem like it would have been one of those shoot em up summer action movies from the 80's and early 90's staring one of those guys or Stallone.

Meh, it actually looks kind of fun.  Foxx chewing scenery(he's actually developed that much as an actor that he CAN chew scenery) plus explosions.

These right here.  The ad campaign killed this movie.  They started out selling it as a thriller, but instead of keeping along those lines, they went full derp and next tried to pass it off as a buddy-cop kind of movie...and then, when that didn't work, tried to mix the two approaches.

Shame, because the movie's a lot better than the ads make it out to be.  Tatum and Foxx play off of each other well, Woods and Clarke look like they're having fun, and even the little girl isn't completely annoying.  Compared to Olympus Has Fallen, it's more entertaining and enjoyable, and even slightly more plausible (though that doesn't mean much - just about anything's more plausible than Olympus Has Fallen).

Foxx is still sitting in the rafters of Miami's arena. He can't come down until the movie makes $300MM.

It's honestly not as bad as you think.

I mean it ain't great, don't get me wrong, but if you can turn your brain off for an hour or so it's an entertaining ride.

You both left out the wonderful line in the trailer, "President" Jamie Foxx "Get your hands off my Jordan's!"  I saw that in the theater I think everyone there cringed.

At least, thanks to Channing Tatum, somebody will always be there to give Vin Diesel some competition in that race for the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor Who Obviously Took His Name from a Chippendale's Dancer.

I haven't yet seen "Man of Steel", probably will this weekend.  Been waiting for Pacific Rim since I saw the trailer when I saw "The Hobbit".

I saw this on a flight and liked it way more than I should have.  I especially liked the role reversal of Jonah Hill becoming the popular one & Tatum ending up being a dick that everyone hated.  Done very subtly and done well.

There were laughs at my theater at that.  Honestly, it worked out better in context.

This is called DUeling Movies

Past examples:
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vs Van Helsing
Iron Eagle vs Top Gun
A Bugs Life vs Antz
Despicable Me vs Megamind

I only have the interest to sit in a theatre maybe once per week, and I wanted to see The Heat this weekend, which my wife and I did. And it was f*cking funny as sh*t. Almost as funny as Bridesmaids.

White House Down just looks... boring? I don't particularly like Jamie Foxx. He's just a little too condescending or something I dunno. I just feel like when he's acting he's got this smirk that says "don't you get it? It's me, Jamie Foxx, acting!".

To me, it's a bigger problem than just that. It's with the whole industry. For some reason Hollywood has decided that all action movies have to be over the top massive. Remember Die Hard 1988? John McClane jumping off the roof through the window with a fire hose tied around him. That sh*t looked crazy. And it was small scale compared to today. Yet it still holds up as looking crazy and fretful and all that good stuff. I saw Die Hard 5 and him and his son just jump out of a window without a second thought. And it doesn't even have 1% of the same riveting feel or experience as the 1988 scene.

I'm no movie consultant or anything, but I'd start with "don't use so much CG, use more models/real", and go from there.

/21 Jump Street was awesome
//Man of Steel was terrible

Definitely Tatum's best movie. Had me rolling the entire time. It also does a fantastic job of making fun of overused action movie tropes.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

Never saw the first one, not really interested in kid's take of Greek myths (but won't talk bad about those that do)
Despicable Me 2 Never saw the first one either, but I heard it was funny
The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug Refuse to see it because it's a cash grab
The Lone Ranger Kinda want to see this
RED 2 Can't wait for this, the first one was suprisingly fun. I can watch it any time.
RIPDMen In Black remake (but I will admit the trailers are fun, but I think it's because the song is so catchy)
The Wolverine Waiting for reviews after the travesty that was Origins
Elysium Can't wait for this
KickAss 2 Can't wait for this
Ender's Game We'll see what reviews look like
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire? Wait for reviews, but the first one was very good

If you're talking about Olympus Has Fallen, you need to add another zero. If you're talking about White House Down, you need to add a zero and multiply it by 2.

OHF is profitably now, by $20 million.
WHD is still in the hole by $125 million.

Ryan Renolds and Jeff Bridges as action heroes?  Sure, take my money.  But something about the ads...it's the music.  Something about the song they chose for the ads...it just doesn't have an action movie vibe.  Like it's trying to hard to appeal to "hip".

I'll admit it I saw Olympus Has Fallen and enjoyed it. It was fun in the same way Commando was in that the over the top violence and cheesy plot were exactly what you expected out of an R rated action movie. White House Down on the other hand looked like a watered down family friendly version of the same movie so I had no desire to see it.
