Yeah right, crying crocodile tears for "the environment" while, ironically, golf courses are huge sinks where fresh water gets mixed with pesticides and fertilizer.  Those darn clean energy machines killing the poor birds.  Boo f-ing hoo.

"Scotland, if you pursue this goal, of these monsters all over Scotland, Scotland will go broke,"

If there's one thing that Trump knows about it's how to go broke.

FTA: "Scotland, if you pursue this goal, of these monsters all over Scotland, Scotland will go broke," Trump told parliamentarians. "As sure as you are sitting there, Scotland will go broke."

Scotland should listen. If there's one thing Trump is good at, it's going broke.

2013-07-01 10:07:47 AM
Heard this while eating breakfast; you'd think Trump could hire an actually expert to shill for him rather than acting like he's an authority on everything from renewable energy to the environment.

And pretty much calling everyone in Scotland an idiot doesn't seem like a smart public relations strategy.

That's not a hairpiece .. and I'm sure that someday DNA will prove that it's some kind of very flat roadkill. Oh, it fluffs in the wind .. but only due to modern science.

I wonder if he had that thing assassinated or if he just ran over it himself.

That's funny, I just noticed that assassinated starts with ass-ass.

Oh look .. a kitten.

If you find yourself thinking this, you should reconsider your position. It is literally impossible for Donald Trump to be right about anything.

"'Wind farms are a disaster for the environment,' he said.....Trump was planning to put a big luxury hotel here, too."

I highly doubt his luxury hotel would be as carbon positive as a wind turbine.

That farking monster really farked over Scotland. You should watch the documentary on his shiatbox golf course.

Lots of money spent with very little return. Heavily maintenance reliant and quiet as a mouse,so long as they are no where near YOUR house.

Also Trump is fighting them because they will obstruct the view from land he's trying to develop, nothing else.

Those who oppose Wind Power prefer technologies where the environmental impact is well out of sight and out of mind.  You can't see CO2 and other emissions from burning fossil fuels.   Damming a river to flood thousands of square miles for a hydro-electric project is invisible to 99.99% of those who receive the electricity from said project.  Nuclear waste is stored on site or buried down mines where you can't see it.

The Wind Turbines display their (very, very small) 'environmental impact' for all to see.  Right there wherever they sit.  "OMG my view of the sunset is ruined!!!!"   "OMG the birds!!"*

*If you want a HUGE net loss in the number of birds killed by human structures, turn off all the lights in tall office buildings which attract migrating birds to their deaths in numbers orders of magnitudes greater than the losses from wind turbines.   And save all that electricity, too!!

And keep your cats indoors!!!

Here are the numbers for all you 'citation needed' folks.   http://www.ontarionature.org/protect/campaigns/birds_and_buildings.ph p

Golf courses are environmental disasters with all the herbicides, insecticides and other chemicals that turn a meadow into fairway grass.

Teh Donald is wrong on so many levels at once.  Impressive, sort of.

FTFA:   Next year, Scots vote in a referendum over whether to secede from the United Kingdom. Their government is semi-autonomous - much like a state in the U.S. The Scottish Nationalists who are currently in office want full independence. Green energy is part of their vision. They aim to use renewables to generate the equivalent of all of Scotland's electricity consumption by the year 2020.

Sounds like trouble in the making.  I'm given to understand that, despite the advances the technology has made over time, "green energy" is not budget neutral, i.e. you will spend more installing and maintaining such infrastructure than the equivalent electricity generated.  Replacing the entirety of their energy generation with renewables is likely to be extremely expensive.

Combined with a secession from the UK, I'm not sure where they'd go for funds if it turns out poorly for them.  I suppose they could join the EU if they do secede, but I doubt that's going to be looked at favorably if it's obvious their first act as an EU member nation will be to ask for a bailout.

I wish windmills actually worked as advertised. I like watching them. Maybe the ocean ones will do better.

/for those who are curious, look up "capacity factor"

More than 25% of all the electricity used in Iowa is generated by the wind.  That's up from 5% three years ago.  But clearly, wind technology doesn't work.

I was going to come in here and say something about people intentionally going to Holland to see windmills so dress them up like that or something, but then I saw OldManDownDRoad's list and I can't stop laughing.

I'm with you though, I like them too.

Put the turbines in the middle of the fairway and call them hazards like a putt-putt course.

Came here to submit this as: Donald Trump is now literally tilting at windmills.  Too slow.

ajgeek: I wish windmills actually worked as advertised. I like watching them. Maybe the ocean ones will do better.  /for those who are curious, look up "capacity factor"

And yet, miraculously, Denmark managed to get 28.2% of their electricity from wind in 2011, and 30.0% (not pictured) in 2012.

But I'm sure they are cheating and using magical socialism physics that could never work in Scotland or the United States.

The bird-killing thing is way overblown (ha!) these days anyway.  Modern turbines are ~200 feet in diameter and turn slowly with enormous torque.  From the standpoint of a flying bird, they're basically stationary.

This 5MW turbine has a blade length of 55m with a rated tip speed of 105m/s or 234 miles per hour. Not exactly stationary.

I agree with you, but also find it amusing that a rare bird in Scotland was killed last week by one of these turbines.

It was killed by a wind turbine.  Which means it literally had to fly into a gigantic fan.  There is a reason it's rare, and shouldn't be reproducing.

/Darwin is watching.
