DNRTFA, but even so I have to marvel at how bad it must have been to be considered a "legendary Detroit dump", given that everything in Detroit is a dump. What do you have to do to stand out in that cesspool?

We had reservation for a good hotel and they where overbooked. When got there they had moved us even tho we had reserved room with CC  and they moved us to a little crab shack inn.with a view of a dumpster, and railroad track 40 yards away.

And the Bed smelled liked Pussy--I think.

I Fess up the spelling punctuating thing....but the core of that joke is very old Paul Lynde Joke.

I'd never heard of Paul Lynde but (reading about him on Wiki) he sounds like a very cool man. Peace.

How could it possibly be worse than that hotel with a body in the water tank?  I don't care how run-down a place gets, dead girl in the water tops any infrastructural deficiencies.

Word to the wise: Don't sleep next to a piece of the ceiling, your head may be crushed.

I am fascinated by all the horror stories coming out of Detroit for the past decade or so. At some point, surely it'll have to turn around. I would think eventually it will get so bad, and therefore cheap, that someone with huge pockets will just start buying massive swaths and rebuilding it on a grand scale.

Dead girl in the water AND the Cecil Hotel played host to two serial killers (at different times): the late Night Stalker Richard Ramirez lived there in 1985, as did Austrian strangler turned journalist turned strangler Jack Unterweger in 1991.

Pretty much every hotel in America has at some point lodged one of the thousands of active serial killers who will never be identified.

I work nights in a hotel. I love my job. But holy fark, people are disgusting and awful between the hours of midnight and 5:00 AM. And I work in an upscale, classy hotel for celebrities and rich people.

Well, as soon as the auto unions become more interested in the promotion of the company than their greedy selves, and as soon as Michigan becomes sub-tropical, and as soon as the politicians there abandon their "get whitey" strategy of urban renewal....

Yeah, it could turn around.

When I worked for Dish Network, I actually installed a satellite dish at a home directly across from that one.

It was a crack house, complete with snarling pitbulls, people coming in and out at random times, and the basement being used as a garbage dump.

Odds of that remain low until auto management leads by example.

Why not just use real guns, like everyone else?

And it had bedbugs too. I'm sure it still does even after being 'converted' into apartments.

Always check the registry and know the signs.

When the police walk around with body armor in addition to their vests, and carry shotguns in their hands, you know it's bad.
Yet the father in law still remains in Allen park.

Well, duh.  Check out places before you make reservations.  It's real easy to do nowadays.

That's nothing, compared to a similar hotel in here in Los Angeles that recently found a dead guest in the hotels rooftop water tank. She had been reported missing for several days.
Asian flavored coffee in the morning?

I once got pulled over driving past it on Cass for being white. No shiat, the cops pulled me over and when I asked why, they said that the only white people that came down Cass were those looking for hookers or drugs. This was about 20 years ago.

Wasn't that the exact plot of Robocop?

A goth club with a hotel upstairs?  Would have been all over that when I was 20 something years old.  Yeah, I was young and stupid.  Also, bedbugs weren't a thing back then either.

lol, I love that there are a long series of horrific reviews then there's one guy who's like, "It has a good location next to La Guardia Airport, the lady and the guy in the lobby were very nice to us..." - three stars

I like to stay at those older hotels.  I feel like I have gone through a time warp.  Walking along the halls of the Congress Hotel in Chicago knowing those Capone soldiers who committed the St Valentine's Day massacre stayed there and Capone himself even wandered those halls. Modern hotels, while comfortable enough and all, do nothing for my imagination.  They are all pretty much designed the same way.
