I shot this scene in South Dallas the other day.

Wedged between Loop 12 and Village Fair. Very urban.

South Florida,in it's entirety, needs to meet Andrew's much bigger, much angrier brother. Or a tidal wave of biblical scale. Something forcing a restart (or a no start) because this place is awful.

I've seen dogs get on and off Moscow Metro trains like they knew they were going. But most just camp out above ground, near thermal vents in the winter

Beg for a snack, make a deposit, meet some biatches behind the club...

How's about 'pee on lamppost' - if it's New York anyway.

The Gunkanjima is now open to the public again, after being closed off for years as it was deemed unsafe. Tourists are allowed to land on the island (if the weather and waves permit it), and go around a limited area of it. My FiL went, and it looked pretty interesting. Apparently, many of the apartments were pretty much left as they were, with TVs and pans and stuff left behind.

Exactly two of those were actual ecosystems. The rest are just shiatty neighborhoods or office parks inhabited by humans. I expected a story about microorganisms living in cloud banks, etc.

When I lived in Oceano, Ca, [mid 80's] it wasn't unusual to see coyotes eating disposable baby diapers that were left on the beach.

I think that's the joke.

Is that the joke?

Because "your mom's basement" makes no sense.

Was also in the latest James Bond movie, Skyfall.

Yep. Though they must have shopped out the boatloads of tourists arriving at the bad guy's lair.

Fark you io9.  This article was first published by them Apr 16, 2010.  Half the links are broken.  They just changed the date and put it on their main page.

Don't knock them. Peanuts are cheaper than handing out quarters, they aren't armed with squeegees, and they are easier on the eyes.

When are these retarded, unoriginal "your mom" headlines going to go the way of break dancing?

Seriously, FARK should have a "your mom" tab and a "I have the mind of a 12 year old, hence comic book" tab.

Your mom reads comic books.

I've read about most of those places before. I've heard most about those Ice Castles though in relation to the Saint Paul Winter Carnival Ice Palaces we have around here when the weather is permitting. Quite amusing when some of the ice blocks have additions, such as fish mouthing "Oh shiat!" in their frigid coffins.

On a side note I'm sure the The Gowanus Canal has some nifty nicknames, what with Anus right there in the name.

I think "your mom" jokes are pretty funny, I hear them all the time from my 11-year-old and they....oh.  I see your point.

/but they are kind of funny is a stupid juvenile way...
//maybe that's just because I always hear them being said in my kid's voice, and he's pretty funny.

Actually, just looked up the island on Wikipedia, none of the island was used, part was a soundstage, and the rest was CGI, although it was the inspiration.

Dallas has the largest urban forest in the world, or something bizarre.

Also, look up monk parakeets for strange urban ecosystems.

Tijuca Forest, in Rio de Janeiro, is the largest in the world.

Largest urban forest park is in Atlanta.
Largest municipal forest is in Louisville, KY.
