A statement released Sunday by her publicist said the event was hosted by the China National Petroleum Corp. and wasn't a political event.

American Pop star sings "Happy Birthday" to Turkmenistani President at the behest of a Chinese OilCo?

Just reading that gave me jet lag.

Now I'm wondering how much ya pay for that kind of thing and for that kind of money do you get the "Full Marilyn" treatment.

Lopez's publicist says the event was vetted by Lopez's staff: "Had there been knowledge of human rights issues any kind, Jennifer would not have attended."

Weird how they messed up there. Because I know that whenever there's a question of human rights abuses in Turkmenistan my go-to group for up to the minute knowledge is always a member of J-Lo's entourage.

/In a pinch a roadie for Ozzie will do but it's best to go straight for the source I say.
//Plus one Subby, headlines are remarkably good today.

Doesn't she do a brisk business doing 'private concerts' for the ultra-rich like the Sultan of Brunei and the like?

What's funny is since they believe the bullsh*t they see from the Western media, all these oil trash rulers and sheiks think they've scored some huge deal in buying a live performance from a disposable pop-star like Jennifer Lopez. "Now the Americans will know I am very hip and very cool just like the Americans I see on on television!"

These squares don't realize most of America thinks she's a joke, almost as big of a joke as the Turkmenistani President's hair dye.

A lot of singers do this. Beyonce sang for one of Khadafy's sons. Mariah Carey, too.

"Lopez's publicist says the event was vetted by Lopez's staff: "Had there been knowledge of human rights issues any kind, Jennifer would not have attended."'

Basically they really did just rely on whatever knowledge her staff had, which is to say none. A simple google should have turned up enough to know that this would be bad publicity, especially since this has happened to other performers.

They didn't even bother looking it up on wikipedia. It's visible in the farking table of contents, section 2.1, human rights, ffs. So I would bet money NO vetting went on.

Look at it this way.  Her appearance fee probably kept the police from buying a few dozen Pears of Anguish.

Eh, and every one in this thread made a post using a computer that was made from minerals most likely mined by child slaves in the Congo.
