Week 4 of Aikido. My back is still in pain from the flips I did 4 weeks ago. It doesn't hurt so bad when I'm in class, but after my kid thought it would be funny to jump on me while I was sleeping, I'm seriously thinking of going to the hospital on Tuesday. To visit him.

the bottom part of the trail I was not a fan of... the brush on the sides was really overgrown, kind of made me claustrophobic/ bearaphobic. Once I got to an overlook where I could see the tram, I felt better because I felt like I was making progress, and also the trail opened up. The "big" stream crossing was a bit unnerving because of the possibility of sliding off a wet or loose rock and going down the side. Some of the snow slide crossings were a bit unnerving as well. As far as the rest of the trail, it was actually pretty nice. Except for the woodchuck(?) turds... and then almost stepping on a woodchuck(?). I'm also still really tripped out by how close you can get to ptarmigan without them even noticing you.

I was hunting with my retriever years ago and she literally ran into the butt of a partridge. Scared the shiat out of her when that bird flew up right before her snout, and she hightailed it right back to the cabin. I still laugh when I think of Brandy, bless her soul.

you can also take Perseverance all the way to Granite Creek, up into that bowl, and then walk the ridge to the top of Mt. Juneau.  It's a lot less unnerving, but longer, and I think Perseverance is washed out again before Granite Creek.

Last time I did Mt. Juneau, I got a free helicopter ride to the top and just had to walk down the next morning.  The only tent I had at the time was around 15 pounds, so I had to shlep that home.  My legs were jelly when I got down, and I had to walk all the way home from the trailhead to Evergreen Ave.

I flushed some grouse or ptarmigan one time by nearly stepping on them in tall grass.  I wasn't looking down at all and was afraid I had just almost stepped on a bear.

Persevarance is good ***almost*** all the way to the end. (well beyond Granite Creek) There was a washout at some falls just before the end... old weird dude said it was about 6 years ago.

lol

When I used to clean gas wells, I remember walking all around a wellhead in head high grass setting up guy-wires for the drill mast. Took about an hour and a half. Then I cranked the well open, which creates a sound as loud as a jet engine and starts the ground shaking. Anyway, I'm up on top of this wellhead and when the sound starts, I see at least 4 deer jump up within the circumference of my guy-wires. I had been walking all around them all morning and they never moved. Just amazing.
