Really?  I live here and I've visited your city many times (at least what you listed in your profile).  I don't really think you have much say in these matters.

Kansas City is light years better than Houston. Best place in Texas is San Antonio, lived there for 3 years.

Sure...

San antonio. Really. That's your shining beacon.

Anybody who has been to both knows how badly you're trolling right now. Houston is an industrial shiathole.

Yeah...I don't think you actually got off the plane.

The Mississauga train derailment?     I lived in Etobicoke at the time--we took in our friends from Mississauga at the time.

I don't even need to go to San Antonio to verify that Houston is a shiathole.  The Aquarium is kick-ass, though.

And none of the drivers can signal or merge.  Not a single f*cking one.

You're right...for some reason people around here hate their turn signals. I've been trying to figure that out for 20 years.

Drives me nuts.

csb:

Many years ago there was a train derailment near where I lived involving toxic chemicals and they evacuated up to the building next to me, but not mine.

So naturally, my roommate and I fled the building, bought lunch and headed towards the scene so we could watch what was going on while we ate.

We sat on a hill overlooking the tracks and the train wreck was actually pretty boring but it was fun anyway.

When people read these stories, I think they get the idea that there is a toxic green cloud of gas or something that envelops and strangles everything in its path, but it's not usually like that.

I probably have cancer.

Yeah, sure. Was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, lived in an apartment at 2447 Harry Wurzbach Rd. There was a Stop & Go right across the road and a dive bar just down the street. Anything else I can do to prove it to you?

Ok, I believe you.  Sorry, I didn't mean for you to go through all of that.  I just think your view of HOU may be incorrect,  It's not perfect, but SA is mostly a tourist trap, I go there frequently too.  I travel for a living.  There's actually a lot of culture in Houston, you just have to actually go into the city.  Part of the problem is that we have so much sprawl that people think "I'm in Houston" and they're actually in the suburbs or one of lesser known neighbors.  We have about 8 cities so close to each other that you don't really know where you are sometimes.

You were in a shiatty part of town.
There are some really nice areas just not  where the lower income folk go. Getting around is a bit of a biatch because just mentioning expanding public transportation is enough to send the pearl clutching cake sniffers into a panic that "those people" might see the the fence of their gated area through a bus or train window.

Let me end this feud, Houston is in fact a giant shiathole, KC isn't awful, and Austin is by far the best city in Texas.

So seriously, what exactly is the definition of toxic now?

Not toxic like chlorine. Just irritating like tear gas. No lasting damage.

A friend of mine sprayed mace on my anus once while I slept.

It is physically impossible for everything farkers lament about to be as bad as they claim.  When you think you are looking super cool by declaring oxygen to be overrated and swill only fit for the uneducated, unsophisticated pallet, then you can become an official fark world critic.  In fact, they will triple your pay.

O2 is overrated, I sleep in a hypobaric chamber and have accustomed myself to function in 8% oxygen quite comfortably.

I should literally be impossible for that train to be leaking an UNKNOWN substance.

How the fark do they not know?
Is this more of Texas' "we dont need no stinking regulations?"

That is at the same level of intelligence of fools who when hearing about a crime assume a back man committed it.

The true test:  Does the city in question have a population of 7 figures?  Yes?  Than it's a shiathole by default.  1 million + people cant inhabit the same patch of land without ruining the land, the culture and any sense of morals and ethics.  And if that upsets you, you are one of those arseholes.  Truth hurts.

I love that this is the prevailing view of Houston. It keeps the douchebags in Austin and Dallas (and California) and Houston's unemployment low, wages high and unbelievable restaurants unbelievable.

It's pretty much unanimous, Houston sucks.

How do two train cars run into each other? They are usually separated by 'connections' between them (by two or three feet), right?

That's what I was going for. San Antonio is a decent place to visit, but shiat to live. Houston is decent to live financially, but lacks culture. Austin blows for cost of living, but has some culture.
