Concern trolling style of advocacy.  It's an extension of being concerned with the health of women so we have to ban abortion women's healthcare and birth control, or being concerned about the dignity of black people so we have to eliminate all programs that help the poor and affirmative action and scholarships and etc etc.

My recollection is that 'Reagan Democrats' were blue collar, socially conservative mostly big city types who would see a vast pool of cheap labor as a threat.

So, I guess she's technically correct.

Reagan Democrats were somewhat moderate, mostly Northern white working-and-middle-class (often union) families who crossed party lines to vote for him because Reagan told them that their problems mostly owed to the poors and the blacks and the Hispanics. Today, a lot of them are Tea Partiers.

While I understand and can agree with that idea...  On the other hand, it's useful to keep reminding the public that this is the person Republicans thought should be vice president.  This is the person that Republicans spend money to go see speak, to buy her books.  That this is the person that Republicans think Represent their party.

You've just abandoned the Reagan Democrats with this gay marriage ruling. It was the loss of working class voters in swing states that cost us the 2012 election, not the gay vote. Gays who stayed unmarried because of DOMA respect the rule of law and can see how self-centered a politician must be to fill this gay marriage ruling with favors, earmarks and crony capitalists' pork, and call it good. You disrespect gays with your assumption that they desire ignoring the rule of law.

Palin is a moron, but morons say something somewhat true at times.  I know a number of legal immigrants who are not terribly happy about offering the easy way out(or in?) for people that circumvented the pain in the ass process they did and didn't pay the appropriate dues.  It's kind of sour grapes, but it can be construed as a slap in the face to those who put the effort in.  Then again, some social programs tend to provoke the same emotions

I get told all of the time that as a legal immigrant I am mad about people who didn't do it The Right Way. Except it isn't true. The only people I've ever seen express that bit of idiocy are white male Americans who had to go through the rigmarole of immigration proceedings to bring a foreign spouse here, and it always reeks of the usual American right-wing entitlement complex.

spongeboob: BMulligan: Mike Tyson attended my law school graduation.

You can't post that without some details, was he a speaker, did he wander into by accident, was he invited by one the graduates, when did this take place before or after the face tattoo, and most importantly did he threaten to eat anyone's babies?

Friends with one of my classmates, a young woman whom I didn't know. Attended with three bodyguards, arrived late and left early (although he did wait outside to chat briefly with his friend), sat in the front row where one of his people had reserved a block of seats. I pretty sure that this was before the tattoos, but I could be wrong. He didn't talk to anyone in either a threatening or nonthreatening manner, except his friend. It was really, really weird.

"It was the loss of working class voters in swing states that cost us the 2012 election, not the Hispanic vote."

Translation:

"You're pandering to the wrong group!"

Sounds a lot like that old coont Phillys Whats-her-name that was mentioned in an article a couple days ago, where she claimed the republicans need to stop wasting their time on the blacks and latinos and push hard for the white vote.  There seems to be a serious push to make the republican party the white party.  I seem to recall another World War II era party that espoused the superiority of one race above all others... how did that go for them?

Yeah, it is is an amazing graphic. I remember when it came out too and the bubble blindness astounded me.

I know a few people who may qualify as some of those in depicted. But the other 99% of the people I know have incomes that are less than the taxes those people pay. Yet they pay the same for a gallon of gas, a loaf of bread etc etc etc.

I really do like how miserable people who make a quarter-million a year look when they lose $3k. Meanwhile, median person has to work 5 years for every one of theirs. They like to pretend they make all that money because they work HARDER rather than they got lucky in the genetics lottery plus the circumstances of their birth family.

Oh here's an interesting fact I picked up:

'Bristol' is slang for 'tits.'

If you google 'Rhyming slang' or 'cockney rhyming slang' you get a crash course on rhyming slang; one will say it originated in England (among poor folk in order to disguise what they're discussing) and 'Bristol cities' rhymes with 'titties' so you could say something like 'look at her bristol cities' and the person you're talking to would of course have to understand that you're speaking in rhyme and then they'd understand you're talking about her tits.

So you know one, and they are racist.

Shining examole there.

1) Mexican isn't a race, it's a country of origin
2) GP already lumped in "hispanics and latinos" and Salvadorans are part of that same group
3) Moving goalpost

1. Jfc, don't be an idiot. If you want to be technical there are no such things as different races of homosapien anyway.

2. So if the GOP cannot tell the difference between distinct groups out of ignorance, then you are going to cite them as an authority on the matter

I thought we were talking about YOUR experiences with all the people telling you how upset they were about illegal immigration. Who cares which races the Republicans want ignorantly lump together?

3. I moved no goalposts.

I'm sure everyone my age remembers how indignant older black people were after the civil rights marches ended segregation.  They would fume when they saw a young black man sitting in the restaurant of his choice, eating crackers* like he owned the place.

*unintentional pun

Similar to how older women were indignant to see younger women have the right to choose to have a safe, legal abortion, instead of being limited to the choices of illegal, dangerous abortion or the social stigma of single motherhood and poverty.
