Man they weren't kidding about the 80's vibe of that video. I'm pretty sure that music was used in the Economics: U$A video series.

So, it's a Gen 1 Kindle? only without Amazon?

So no in-app purchases, no advertising pop-ups, no browser hijacks, no malware stealing personal information over the internet and no persistent reminders of updates and game alerts.

Sounds pretty good to me.

If they want the rest of the world to be impressed, they should have at least filmed this with a camera that was made in the last, say, three decades.

They filmed it with the highest definition cameras ever produced. Unfortunately, the device had been touched by Zaftig Leader. It now contains the energy of the elusive triple rainbows, warping and distorting all photographic devices within 10 square kilometers.

Yeah. That reminded me of this, minus the Michael Jackson song. When I first saw it, I was so sure it was a 50s propaganda film, and was so surprised that it was made in the 70s.

"In future, the Tablet PC, now a world standard, will be produced and used to help the DPRK as an economic powerhouse with advances in science and technology."

Do you think they are suggesting the NK tablet is a world standard? I know it's a translation, but that seems intentionally vague in the English version. Makes me wonder what the Korean version says. There are google/youtube translations available as a caption service, these are quite different from the original captions.

There are various speeds and qualities of film, and for a long time American film production could use some pretty bad quality stock. Compare 2001: ASO (made in the late 60s) to 90% of the movies made in America during the 70s-80s and you will see a wide range of quality in our own productions.

You do not hyphenate "may not," auth-tard.

It may still have an internet connection. TFA says it doesn't have wifi, but doesn't specify whether it has cellular connectivity.  The DPRK does have limited cellular coverage.

No, it doesn't. You are assuming that this will get produced and will actually make it into the hands of school children outside the odd showcase classroom in Pyongyang.

It is truly amazing what a country can accomplish when they have the resources of a rural white 15 year old american.  Probably running Android Vanilla for x86 lmao.  No, I didn't read the article.  Don't need to.  I read about kids doing the same thing every week two years ago.  Converting Asus eee's into tablets with the old usb touch screen mod.  Next year: an "OS" that is more than a contained web browser with a bunch of site scraper bookmarks in the form of apps.  But don't let that stop ya NK, okay hun?  You can do a wheelie like your big brother when you are old enough but you will always have to wear the bike helmet lol.

My Mom's got that tablet case! (The keyboard doesn't work for her, though.) I recommended it for her after seeing it on LockerGnome

Considering the biatching and moaning you occasionally get from astronomers over light pollution .. it seems that if you could evacuate the North Korean's in to other countries (where they'd have better food, medical care, education, prospects, etc.) and then designate that whole country as an international 'dark park' it'd give everyone what they want.

Astronomers get a huge ass area of land to shove telescopes.  Everyone else gets to feel good about 'saving' the NK's from that hell hole they had the genetic misfortune to be born in.
