I vote the Celts field just Rondo and Jeff Green go 2-on-5 and run alley oops ALL DAY.

/ALL DAY.

But now the C's have so many draft picks! Great news for the future Marcus Bankses and Gerald Greens and Joe Fortes of the future.

That Rondo part was the one that really hurts.  He could get a triple double when he was playing with Pierce, Garnett, and Allen.  2 years ago he was worth more than he will ever be worth at any time in his career.
I'm also disappointed that they didn't unload KG, Pierce, and Allen 2 years ago - and get something in return for Allen.
My thought on Pierce was that if he wanted to stay on the Celtics, let him, but if he wanted to ride off into the sunset with another team, it should be closer to home on an LA team.
Ainge is using the same rebuilding method he used before.  Stocking assets and clearing money.  He'll need a lottery team next year to get back into action and somehow turn those 3 or 4 low first rounders into...something. I see a lot of DL time for Rondo and Jeff Green next year.

Nana's Vibrator: He could get a triple double when he was playing with Pierce, Garnett, and Allen because he turned down open layups to get assists and the team set up its rebounding schemes around him.

Way for the Nets to become the team to appeal to the young, hip crowd.  Just like Jay-Z wanted.

/Or maybe he wanted to appeal to the hip replacement crowd...

As a lifelong Boston fan/NY hater it's going to make me a little ill rooting for Brooklyn against Miami in the ECF next year.

KG needs to retire with the Nets. One more trade and it will be "Shaquille O'Neal with the Cavaliers" level desperation.

That's exactly what I was implying, though if I can give him any credit, his intermediate range rebounding is one of the few "hard work" things he seems to be willing to do.

It's been a weird week, but I"m OK with Allen getting another ring and Rivers moving along.  I don't love the Heat but Allen was f'ed over by the Celtics, and no one's ever accused a Doc Rivers team of overachieving.
To me, Clay Buccholz being hurt is worse than the Ray Allen thing - for all you photoshoppers out there.

Losing the Cup was a big stomach punch, and this Hernandez thing is extremely disappointing in a lot of ways, but fascinating as well.

It is sad to see my favorite team get broken up.  It is going to be even worse to see Pierce in anything but Celtic green.

Good luck, fellas.  Thanks for the awesome seasons.

AND NO MORE JASON TERRY!

But in two years, when the Celtics probably hope to be good again, that's a 10m expiring contract.  It doesn't have null value.

That said, it kills a great deal of their flexibility in the short term.  So.. still mostly bad news.

People keep saying it was a bad deal.  Isnt it better to get a bunch of picks and some serviceable pieces for two guys who would have just walked away?  Am I crazy for thinking this?

Hey, at least they have some guys who can grab a board now......but they dont have anyone who can score the ball anymore.

Rondo phones it in 60% of the time when he was playing on a contender.   I can't imagine how badly he's going to dog it on a stinker of a team.

And what's going to be almost 3 sure fire non-lottery picks.

Just looks like they didn't like a long drawn out PR nightmare of shipping off two legends like KG and Pierce, so they just wanted to get it all over with at once for whatever they could get and move on.

Overall a great deal for the Cs, I'm not buying that they could have gotten more and I'm ok with the past two seasons (though this year was rough.)  I think the 2014 pick is likely to be a late first rounder but the 2016 (and I think they have the option of switching places with the Nets in the 2015 draft, though that might be the 2017 draft) and the 2018 might just be great picks.  KG and Pierce only have a couple mid-high level years left (seems that way anyhow) and Joe Johnson already seems like an old man.  Unless the Nets bring in some free agents for 2016/2018 then I can see those picks being pretty decent.

As for taking back Wallace, we had to give a bit and the money had to match, so it doesn't break my heart or anything.

/They're gonna be rough to watch though.
//The Nets should be good next year.

The complaints about him, especially as a writer (over-reliance on making inane pop culture references and analogies, etc) are totally legit....yet at the same, he is morphing into a decent commentator; at least by ESPN's incredibly low standards.

Deadspin has a weird boner over him (I find it especially weird because I don't think Grantland is really a direct competitor) but they aren't wrong in that his writing style has gotten stale.

When Simmons is REALLY motivated to write something with substance, he's damn good. Now that he's on TV, you're also seeing he has the balls to say something w/o being a complete asshole about it, which is rare for ESPN, since you're a either a total daisy or a complete prick like Skip Bayless.

And people hate on his Top 100 Free Agent article.  I thought that it was interesting.  People dont like the NBA and Bill has started to focus most of his attention on the NBA, turning people off to his writing.  That is what Grantland is for, the rest of the topics.

He doesnt have one up yet today?  I figured him and Jalen would have done one after the draft last night.

I am new to Simmons (my brother has been trying to get me to read him for a decade) but I will forever be on his side because of the obit he wrote for Macho Man (perfectly capturing what it is to be an adult wrestling fan), his podcast with Scal about the Celtics teams I loved, and his passion for what he does.  I never feel like he is mailing it in.
