Not entirely their fault.

If we had honest reporters for the 24/7 networks who looked at the state by state polling for the electoral math, the people watching them would have known sometime in June that it wasn't going to be close.

But the MSM needs their ad dollars so they sold a horse race.

You have to go full John Madden.  See, the problem with Romney was, see he didn't get as many electoral votes as he needed to win.  If you don't get as many points as the other team, you're probably not going to win that game.

the 24 hour news networks are part of the liberal leftist lamestream media conspiracy, why would any republican even watch that garbage? unskewed polls ftw!

Of course they didn't. They would have had to step outside the echo chamber first.

But it's not *just* that.  For reporting history media now sucks because they don't ask the right questions.  However, when it's something like an election the media has to play it extra careful because things they say can really impact voter turnout.  "Oh, don't bother, it's in the bag for [candidate]" could really impact things, which is not supposed to be the role of the media.  But yes, they really over-hype and it's obnoxious.  I can't stand to watch it anymore.

I was telling some Republican friends Romney was going to lose back in 2010.

But I guess that if I were a partisan hack looking down the barrel of nominating that guy for President, I'd be in denial, too.

That someone could even think that outcome was even a remote possibility truly displays how disconnected with reality the GOP and their fan base was and still is to this day

I know full blown Tea Party derpsters who voted for Michele Bachmann and refused to vote for Romney.

In their construction of reality, Rimney only lost because he is a RINO.

2013-06-28 09:11:50 AM
I remember having an argument with some Republican guy on Facebook I fight with a lot, about a week before the election. He was absolutely convinced it was going to be Romney in a landslide. Not even going to be close, he insisted. I was baffled, like that wasn't the polling data I was seeing, but no, he would not be swayed. Well until reality showed up. It was weird though. I guess people can convince themselves of anything.

I still can't get over the fact that Romney had fireworks ready to blow up over Boston at midnight to celebrate his victory. There can never be enough schadenfreude for this asshole.

Romney only lost because 95.43% of white voters were afraid to approach the polling place because of armed Black Panthers.

Nate Silver was telling them how badly they were losing. They ignored him in favor of a fat guy who stood in front of an evergreen tree.

Barring any successful voter ID laws, polling place restrictions, electoral college voting assignment hijinxs, or nominating a genuinely moderate candidate/ failure of Dems to nominate someone good, I don't see how the GOP will ever win the presidency.

Until then they're going to focus on farking up state races by, gerrymandering and voter suppression techniques.  The dems need to start working on states now.  There are many districts where a dem doesn't even run!  That's sad.

Eddie Adams from Torrance: Cognitive dissonance is one of the only things that the GOP excels at these days.

I wouldn't be that generous, as cognitive dissonance implies a disconnect between two somewhat contradictory thoughts. This isn't the right term for what they're experiencing, for several reasons. For one, it implies they are capable of holding more than one thought in their head. Facetious, I know, but I'm only half-joking. The single-mindedness (at least, politically) of the GOP - the mentality that if other people have rights and opportunities, it means there are less for me - is staggering. And the echo chamber has done a real good job keeping that the overriding thought in their minds. Secondly, there is no place for any incongruity in the modern GOP, the Tea Party has made that abundantly clear. You don't tow the line 100%, you're a RINO. So cognitive dissonance isn't an apt description of what's going on. I feel the most appropriate terms to use to describe modern Republicans' cognitive capabilities would be things like "willful ignorance" or "magical thinking" or "conspiracy ideation" or even a combination of them.
