I don't think you need to be a helicopter parent too be upset about this. Or even a parent, really.....

2013-06-28 12:12:30 AM
Yeah, any NORMAL parent would be totally fine with it! Helicopter parents. PSH! Lighten up, already!

What a great idea. This will teach the kids how to recognize criminals and the optimal defense strategies. If the kids get killed anyway, well, it's for the best... call it weeding out the weak/thinning the herd/Darwinism in action.

I went to a math camp that had a convicted child killer as one of the staff. About two weeks in he taught us a strangely simple math problem. 35 kids - 4 = 31 Kids

And yet my outstanding student loans prevent me from getting my Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division license in Colorado.

Priorities.  Government haves them.

I'm a graduate of that camp, and I can tell you, there are not as many murders as you think.

And read teh article - these half-weight pussies haven't been convicted of jaywalking much less 'OMFG MURMUER!"

You're not a helicopter parent just because this would bother you.

You're a helicopter parent if you call little Aiden's 3rd grade teacher to biatch about the 'satisfactory' mark he received on that paper mâché island you made for him, because he's definitely going to need double down on the athletic scolarship plan now if he is ever going to get into an Ivy League school...

To be fair they wouldn't have been convicted if Stand your Ground laws existed at the time.

I think you mean fit's.

Even worse notice...the child killer killed her OWN child.  not just some random kid.

2013-06-28 12:36:23 AM
Second degree 30+ years ago, and voluntary manslaughter.

I don't see a real murderer here. They might have killed, but they didn't set out to kill.

Uh, as someone who volunteers at a summer camp for one week, this would bother me, and I'm a *counselor*. We've dealt with heleicopter parents. This is not helicopter parenty.

ESPECIALLY the child killing conviction would bug me. Because that makes me think about something potentially happening to one of the campers. Which puts me into a... I think TV tropes calls it "Papa Wolf" state of mind.

Do they.. do they not run background checks or something? Every year I have to submit a background check authorization form via our camp director, who submits it to Council.

As long as they aren't in direct contact with kids, and are limited to administrative roles, I have no problem with this.

The camp seems to think they are outstanding employees, and they would know best. I'm a firm believer in second chances.

i'm appalled. when i send my kids to murder camp i expect the instructors to have gotten away with it.

Maybe you should rtfa, yes they knew, they are administrative employees not around kids, they were manslaughters possibly accidental, also many years ago.

WTF is that a license to do; use MMJ, grow it, sell it, enforce the laws about it?

Conditioning medical care on debt status is farked up, even if "outstanding" really means "delinquent."

"The source also said that their roles go beyond administrative and that they work directly with kids."

So what's your problem now?

I remember the Fred Lane story and while he was most likely guilty of mentally and physically abusing Diedre, was pretty full of himself, a big time show off and probably pretty douchetastic, it was most likely pre meditated.

Deserved?

Grow it, sell it, run a shop.  When they sprung that regulation on us all of a sudden it kind of killed my MMJ career and drove my wife and I into extreme poverty.

What's really messed up is that outstanding debt or a minor drug possession conviction will bar you from the industry, while being a convicted murderer or rapist is hunky-dory.

Don't know if it's going to work that way in the recreational mj biz or if MMED is even still going to exist there.  I hope not, because the only thing I've ever been happy doing is selling weed to sick people.

Hell, I have family I wouldn't trust my children with, and they haven't killed, or even molested anyone.

Sending kids to a camp that has failed criminals running it would remind me to much about the summer of '76, when I was a student volunteer for the Carter campaign.

Bob "I want more lemon and sugar in my iced tea" Beckel was a nut, but he only touched the girl that one time. Man, her Dad was less than pleased. But Bob did apologize, so I guess it is OK.

Did these killers ever apologize?

Let me get this straight:  simply having student debt bars you  from the biz, even if payments are not delinquent?

Seriously?  Because, you know, I'm a fairly awful person.  I genuinely enjoy the misery of others if said others annoy me sufficiently. I know that's immoral, but I don't even feel bad about it.  Somehow, though, I have never killed anyone.

That would actually make sense. They wouldn't want someone having an incentive to sell extra pot on the sly to people that don't have valid scripts, because he has to pay back a huge debt burden.
