One of these showed up today by my computer. Good thing Lily was tracking it, or I might not have seen it!! I usually let most bugs go, but nope! Not this time!! Squashed it!!!! Nasty little things.

tigerose: RadicalEd: Ivan Catman went to vet today again. I decided since I have a job now that I'd get his heart test done. It's something I should do about every 6 months or so to check his heart levels since he has a heart murmur.

Well it was supposed to be a 10-15 min visit just to get some blood drawn. Of course, it turned into 45+ since he fought tooth and nail not to have anything done to him. They couldn't get the blood from the jugular (which is where they said they normally do a blood draw), so they tried his front legs. No go because he fought so hard. So they tried his back legs, which apparently is very sensitive. They finally managed to get blood out of one of them, but he'll be bruised for a day or two at all the different spots where they tried to get blood. Not only that, but he managed to knock over rubbing alcohol and peroxide all over his back legs while struggling. He's also missing a bit of fur from his neck from where the technicians were grabbing his scruff trying to hold him still.

Here's an older picture of the catman. This is what I'm assuming he'll do the rest of the day:

Poor kitteh! Has he been taking lessons frm Eli? Once the vet tech came back into the room wearing a pair of hawking gloves, with Eli scruffed, but supported. Once on the table, he ran straight to my stinky pit, shoved his head in for maximum snuffs..and was calm as could be. I nearly had to give the vet tech her teeth from off the floor.

I tried my hand at that very briefly. Went for some schoolin' and everything! I was the Crazy Cat Lady - I got to deal with alllll the crazy cats. Apparently I had a previously undiscovered skill set. While not always faster than the speed of cat, I've a pretty good record at mid-air escapee retrieval (it's all in the wrist), very few wounds to myself and none to the critter while in the heat of "YOU ARE TOO COMING OUT OF THERE!!!" battle if they're in a cage in the ward and the ability to use medical tape to secure a kitten to an x-ray table and quit giggling long enough to take absolutely perfect x-rays. Also, I probably didn't invent the "just put the snake through this here piece of PVC tube I found in the back yard/kennels, tape head, then tape tail, then get the x-ray", but it was the first time the doctors had ever seen anyone do it. They thought it was hilarious.

There's this thing called a "cat bag" (well, that's what we called it). You drop the uncooperative kitty in the bag, zip it up with just its widdle head sticking out, then use one of the other multiple zippers to pull out a leg for a blood draw. You can't do a jug stick safely that way as it can obviously still bite, but you can get the saphenous vein (back leg) with some degree of safety. Too bad the kitties kept bringing in all those stoopid hoomins with them. I hated that part. Oh, and ranch calls. I hated ranch calls. That's when I had to get the rabies series was because of the ranch calls.

I like cookin' better anyway. Also, cheffin' stuff pays better. Not much, but still better.

/ I'm a hardcore nissan fan.
// ...and what did you think would happen?

/altima

My experience with new cars since I could afford my first new car in 1986

1986 Buick Skylark...prettiest car you've ever seen in the service bay..where it spent most of its life.
1990 Nissan Stanza - Awesome!
1992 Nissan 240sx - Awesomer (small mid-life thing going on)
1994 Nissan Sentra - Money probs...had to trade out the 240 :o(
1996 Mercury Villager - I cheated...It was really a re-branded Quest with more options.
1996 Ford Windstar?- Ford gave me a great deal when I returned the Villager. It was a nice van though.
1998 Nissan Altima. - For the Wife.
2000 Nissan Frontier 4X4 Crew cab - Bright Yellow - My baby, I had this one the longest.
2004 Nissan Sentra - Rare model with the 2.5 liter. A rocket. It was for the wife but my testosterone picked it.
2008 Nissan Versa - For the wife. The Sentra was too powerful for her...My bad!
2009 Nissan Murano SL - I'm getting old
2012 Nissan Murano SL - Loaded. I'm officially old.

None of these Nissans (and the Fords) ever gave me any problems. The Buick on the other hand couldn't go two weeks without a trip to the shop.

Wow, Sorry for the wall of text. That turned into a trip down memory lane.

Have a cat.

My car history is substantially shorter, but remarkably similar.

1992 Nissan Sentra
1999 Ford Contour ("Sport")
2002 Nissan Sentra
2010 Nissan Altima Coupe (Purchased as a post-divorce present for myself)

/girlfriend drives a 2007 sentra.

You folks have been busy tonite.
I went to see my neice's daughter in a play this evening.(not a school play). She was the third singer in the front stage right. Of course she was excellent.
On the way home I stopped and picked up a pizza. When I walked in the door Jack and Gremie came running to greet me and then Jack started to run out the door for his nightly walk around the yard when he stopped and sniffed.
No way was he going out until after the pizza was eaten. Gremie ran to the table and waited for the box to be opened.
I did manage to get some for myself while I caught up on the thread.

I like to arrive fashionably late.  Anywho, Another busy week here at the B4 house, as we now have 12 more additions to the household.  Rosemary's first clutch is now completely hatched and we only lost two eggs this time, so we're pretty pleased with the results.

Mo is now enjoying sitting next to the terrarium and watching the lizards run around, but I also think he likes it because no other cat jumps up there and he can be left alone.  More pics of the kittehs here shortly, but a BIG thank you to Lilyspad.  It is a greatly appreciated gift.

lilyspad: Wow.....you never cease to amaze me with what you can do... :D

It's not that impressive. I get bored too easily AND I have ADHD. It leads to a lot of instability. I've just picked up lots of little bits and pieces of how to do some stuffs along the way. I still have to be reminded not to wander out into traffic, though. The thought of getting driver's license again (which I'm going to have to do) frightens me terribly because I crash into inanimate objects on a regular basis. That's how I learned how to reattach a car bumper with bailing wire.

lilyspad: scary, interesting colored bug.jpg.

Huh. I just (last month?) bought nail polishes in a couple shades that critter is sportin' naturally. I've always got black polish (who doesn't?), but I've got all those other shades now, too!

I was going to respond to your post to point out that a heart murmur is not always a big deal (Dragon has one, and so did Merlin - as do I, my mother, my niece - I get a kick out of telling the vet it runs in the family) but I got distracted by your description of the attempted blood draw. While I understand that cats can be difficult, I would have serious doubts about a fully staffed veterinary hospital that would have to subject a cat (or any animal) to at least 5 attempts (from your description) to obtain a blood sample - and ripping out fur from scruffing? If that happened to me, I would run like hell to find another more competent vet. JMHO, but damn, while the white boy hates the vet with a passion, I would NEVER subject him to that.
And WTH was he anywhere near rubbing alcohol and peroxide when they must have realized he was being difficult?

/ Please do not misunderstand me, I appreciate that you are doing your best to take care of Ivan, and my comments are NOT meant as criticism, I'm just expressing my opinion. I hope his tests come back just fine and he will not have to go through that again anytime soon.

And here we begin with the Dawwww moments.  The kittehs will now be five weeks old tomorrow, and they are just all over the place now that they have graduated to the living room.  The wife's red couch is now ground zero for them for some reason, but things are going well with all of them.  Uncle Piggy for some reason seems a little scared of them, and Uncle Mo stays far away.  Aunt Fatty Waffles is another one who has nothing to do with them, but momma Scampi is doing a great job with all of them, especially during feeding throw down when Sashimi Fettucini and Moo Shu Tiramisu decide to start a fight over who goes where.  So to start with, here's Sashimi and me after I thought I'd take a nap for a while, but was rudely interrupted.
sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net
And when I try to be on my couch, the result is the same.
fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net
Probably the last time they all sleep like this, seeing as how they don't really all fit in there anymore.

fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net
Not to be out done, Pu Pu Pasta does the back stretch sleep also.

And then there's our little S-H-I-I-T-A-K-E Parmesan, the little loner.  She's content to go off on her own and prefers to be left alone during play time.

Timid Goddess's comment on needing ladder to reach high notes: Not.  Gotta be a) tenor, b) soprano, c) castrato.  Not that last tho;  's not done any more.  Or just practise strenuously to increase one's top-end range.
Good on arrivals at BBBB's; not too bad if just 2 didn't make it.
That note will now be the Bb the next octave above middle C.
Me to turn into a lump soon, with which Piiki will be quite pleased.  Have a better recent pic of her but haven't downloaded yet, still haven't figured out what's the deal with the Toronto Wildlife Ctr card.

Whew! For a minute there I thought I was out of beer!! But then, I checked the frig....still have one left!! WOOT!!

I don't have beer but I have Woodchuck

Well, I do have a bottle of Edmund Fitzgerald but not sure you want to drink it. I've had it for 3 years.
What can I say, the bottle is really freaking cool :)

I don't know what either one of those are, but.....hey! Bust 'em open!!! :D

Woodchuck is hard applecider..also known as Apple Jack..and Edmund Fitzgerald is made by the Great Lakes Brewing Co. and is a dark beer. I like it, very smooth. No bitter finish.

Oh, okay! That sounds nice! I'm not really much of a micro-brew kindof person. I have a boring palate, but I am always up to trying something different. I usually end up not liking it, though. I'm a cheap date.... :D

Actually, Apple Jack is apple brandy (aka US made calvados). Woodchuck is yummy!

I do have a bottle of mead in the fridge. (White Winter Winery from Northern Wisconsin and really tasty)

.
A woodchuck who may not be apple but he does look a bit hard:

I had some mead for the first time last Saturday night at Litha ritual - I was rather surprised by how good it tasted.

Mmmm....mead.
I gots a batch going right now...well, two actually. One is spiced orange mead, the other is going to be flavored with rose.
For those of you playing at home and going 'So what's the difference?', mead is made from fermented honey while wines are made from fermented fruit. Beers, ales, etc. are from fermented grains.

Ya wanna watch out for those smooth, sweet meads. They have very little alcohol 'bite'...but they can kick like a Missouri mule.
Mine usually come out at 20-23% alcohol. Commercial wines are usually around 9-10%.

tigerose: Free Love

One cannot buy love.

It creeps into your heart,
One soft paw at a time.

Freely given
And received.

It sneaks up,
While you are busy.

Winds it's way,
Around your ankles.

Sits on your feet.
Claims your chair.

Beds down in your hair.

Demands responsibility,
With an iron paw.

Fills your home,
Fills your heart.

Until, one day,
You realize.

You are owned.
You are loved.

You are Blessed,
Beyond measure.

I agree!  I heard a racket one day on the front porch of my office.  I opened the door and there was a kestrel with a blackbird pinned down.  They were both really making a racket!  I told him that I was sorry but he couldn't do that on my porch & they both flew off in different directions.
