Would anyone be shocked if the Cavs selected Oladipo with the #1 pick?  That would make a helluva backcourt with Irving.

After watching some of the Grantland "job interview" segments with the prospects, I'm all in on Oladipo and CJ McCollum.

This; from what I've heard Noel is a disaster waiting to happen.  It's either the Sam Bowie/Greg Oden route, or his entourage is going to make him a problem child.

The Cavs should get Oladipo and if this guy turns into Dwayne Wade 2.0, the Cavs have their backcourt set for the next decade.

Hopefully, Spurs will sign and trade Portland Tiago Splitter (who sucks) for the 10th overall pick. They are also looking at getting Thomas Robinson from the Rockets and possibly signing restricted FA Tyreke Evans. SQUEEEEEEEEEE if that happens.

From everything I've heard, I think there are going to be a ton of teams trading down.  Could get interesting.

ManateeGag: Already?  the season just ended a week ago.

Its a long season, and NBA draft picks are almost always added to the main roster... often as starters.  So the teams need these players ASAP to get them acclimated.  Training camp isn't that far away.

They already have Waiters who is currently more solid than Wade 1.0.

Sounds like this Nets-Celtics thing is legit. Blockbuster.

I had no idea the draft was tonight until I read something earlier today... who knew.

I hope the Bulls don't trade up to get Oladipo - he is a sure fire meh player - this draft in general does not excite me (then again neither did the entire last season, it was a tough one for Bulls fans)

I'd love for the Bulls to pull off the rumored LaMarcus Aldridge trade with the Blazers, but I haven't heard anything more since it popped up a few days ago. So my guess is that it is DOA.

And if the Nets really trade 3 first round picks to the Celtics for KG and Pierce, they will supplant the Bobcats as the dumbest farking team in the NBA.

So, you are saying with the first pick, the Cleveland Cavs select Noel?

They will definitely take an injury risk who gets hurt within 2 years.

I'm reminded of the "you can't draft Jordan, you've got Clyde Drexler!" talk.

People around Cleveland have speculated all sorts of things. There was a trade for Kevin Love rumored. Some people suggested that Alex Len would be the #1 pick (if that's the case, someone will need to shoot Chris Grant). Otto Porter was suggested. Etc. One of the rumors was that the Cavs thought that NONE of the players in this draft would be starters on their team right away except for Porter (because we're currently starting a d-league pickup), so they aren't regarding positional needs at all.

In the end, it should be Nerlens Noel. He's got issues, but he's got the best upside (Oladipo is close, but I tend to cringe when people compare anyone to D-Wade. It seems that at least a half-dozen guys get that comparison in every draft, because D-Wade was an unlikely success story given what was known about him in college). He won't start right away because of his injury and because Varejao is here (but won't be next year). That's fine. I'm fine with losing another season and being back in the lottery again next year. We need to stockpile. If they can get healthy, a team led by Noel/Irving as they get to their prime will be a very, very good team.

I have a serious question

If a team is drafting say 5th and want to trade down because they know there guy will be there at 12th (but gone at 13th) but cannot find a partner.

Now I assume that a team has a "pick clock" where they have say 10 minutes to make their pick. If they do not make the pick, is it like the NFL where the next team gets to go ahead of them? Could they do this all the way down to 12 and get the guy they want?

I know you are giving several teams a freebie in a sense, but they are saving salary while forcing a higher salary on other teams.

THoughts?

I'm not sure how the NBA draft is structured but I believe it would still count as the 5th pick even if you wait until other teams pass you.

i don't know the NBA rule on this but a few years back in the NFL, the Vikings were permitted to slide down, which seems to be what you're saying.  there was some farkery, supposedly....i forget which team the Vikes had been talking to, but they had been talking about a trade, but then time ran out on the Vikings' pick.  other teams, knowing who they wanted but also that the Vikings could pick at any time, banged their picks very quickly.  The Vikes ended up missing pretty high, like the 6th or 7th and ended up picking around 8th or 9th, maybe even 10th.

they were pissed, but the other team -- thinking Browns, maybe Ravens or Atlanta -- said basicaly, "yeah, we were in talks with the Vikes, but nothing was official, too bad so sad, don't fark up next time."

Cavs pick bombs, the Celtics-Nets trade falls apart, Spurs take a foreigner who we won't hear about for 3 years (but has a decent swingman career), Wade announces the Heat pick (if they have one, I don't think they do), Stern trolls at least once for old times sake, and the rookie of the year is the guy drafted 3rd.

That is exactly the scenario i was referring to, but intentionally. The previous poster was right though, the Vikings selection was still the 7th pick though they ended up like 9th...

Nerlens Noel looks tiny for a 7 footer, combined with injury issues=risky. Oladipo will be good, but as a #1???

To be fair, Magic, the players go broke in large part due to guilt tripping relatives doing the "you were pushed here, you were loved" stuff.  I forget which pro said it in one of the combine talks, "the best advice I can give you is to learn how to say no."

Simmons' squealed "no!" to the first mention of the Celtics-Nets proposal starts us off on a good note, lol.

The Nets are in win now mode.  It's a great trade if you want to win now.
