I've still got a bunch of those original lego spaceman mini-figs. Somehow they survived 35 years of torture.

I'm waiting for the inevitable "Call On Me" montage with these figures zipping by at one frame per second.

Wow... without even digging into the catalogs, there's a TON of missing figures (and notable introductions).

All over:
-Showing non-standard faces well before their introductions
-Missing the introductions of the giant snap-on beards, fabric capes, and other widespread accessories
-Introduction of flesh-colored figures

For Castle:
-Changing from "chestpieces" to printed torsos
-Changing from the original "space/town helmet with visored front" to original "knightly" helmets
-Introduction of alternate helmet styles
-Introduction of crown (there wasn't a "king" in any Castle set for over a decade)
-Return to space/town helmets with specialized visors
-Introduction of alternate plumes (Dragon Knights, I think?)
-Introduction of new weapons (long halberd, alternate swords)

For Space:
-Changing from generic "space" to specialized themes like Futuron and Blacktron
-Changing from one-piece helmets to visored helmets
-Introduction of alternate weapons and accessories (Ice Planet skis, etc)
-Use of minifigures as robot characters instead of brick-built robots (

For PIrates:
-Introduction of alternate limbs (peglegs, hook hands)

WTF Gizmodo?

I was going to proclaim no it won't.  We had green armymen that came a dollar a bag of 50 or so  And we liked it.  However there apparently some who had a more luxurious childhood than me.

Needs more angry-face LEGO figures.

The Princess Leia in metal bikini mini-fig looks like it is accurate to Carrie Fisher's current body. It's a tad bit disturbing (as if a million fantasies suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced).

I am not a Lego buff, but it is missing the one set I do have:

Really, where the F is my Blacktron?  That was the best set.

Dazrin: I am not a Lego buff, but it is missing the one set I do have:

You're right - that faction was introduced in '88, but this blog doesn't show scale male torsos until '90. All of the Blacktron and Futuron sets are also missing - same timeframe. Also don't see any of the Town-style figures that came with Train and Boats.

Someone put an metric asston of work into a half-finished, mostly-useless article. What possible use would all these images ever have without year, set number, etc?

If you're just trying to create a photographic timeline, why would you go at this resolution and have this many individual shots, rather than a handful of select figures in group shots for each year?

Okay, I just RTFA again when I noticed how many sets were missing.

We have worked with Lego to painstakingly collect and catalog almost every minifig ever produced into a photographic timeline. You will be able to see the evolution of the iconic figure starting with the iconic 1970s space, city and castle sets that you can see in our exclusive tour of the secret historic Lego vault. Sensory overload ahead.

So this is basically a preview. Hopefully the finished product will be properly divided (by year, range, set).

My phone didn't like all those pictures on one page, but I'm apparently not crazy thinking they missed a lot.

The change from single piece helmets for the space sets to the visor style was so awesome to me as a kid. The cannons from the pirate sets that shot the single cylinders was great to. I can't wait until my kid is old enough to play with all my old legos.

"Nerd?" Just because a kid had Lego stuff, that doesn't say "nerd." What's next? You had a bicycle, so you were a total jock? This fake nerd business is really getting on my last nerve.

The only Space minifigs were the original Space minifigs. White, red, yellow, black, blue. I will allow movable visors. THEY ALL MUST BE CLEAN-SHAVEN AND SMILING.

My parents got me the LEGO book set a few years back- the 'Standing Small' book on the history of Minifigs was quite cool. If/when I ever have kids, they'll have a good assortment of LEGOs to play with since I have all of my old ones plus my 15-years-younger brother's sets from when he 'outgrew' them.

/can't have my collectible minifigs though, those stay in the display case
//bets the kids will try and get them out to play with anyway...

The skeleton is awesome, how did I not know about this?

Also one of those medieval/knightly/Viking types looked like a Knight Who Says Ni, is that intentional?
2013-06-27 06:10:14 PM
Wow, this really takes me back.
2013-06-27 06:15:01 PM
Oh, wow.  Nostalgia overload.

You know, if I could I would buy a tank of Octan gasoline in a heartbeat, and I don't even own a car.

Ok, sometimes slideshows may be warranted. That was the slowest loading site I've run into a long time, the bar kept shrinking as the photos loaded for literally about 2 minutes. Break up images into pages if you're going to have like 300 of them, web designers..
2013-06-27 08:27:01 PM
I had those original space minifigs.  WTF is with the new-fangled facial expressions now?  And get off my lawn.
2013-06-27 08:27:20 PM

The ones with no arms, faces or leg separations are the oldest ones I've got ..

There are about 100 or so in that display .. that doesn't include the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings sets and most of the minifigs from the new minifigs collectors series ..
