(KSL Salt Lake City)   Teen who entered an elementary school last week shirtless and bloody with sharpened sticks yelling "I want to murder someone" is allowed to return to the school the following week. Not surprisingly, some parents have a problem with this   (ksl.com) divider line 145

Sadly, the rare "Inappropriate person of hostile intent still allowed onto school property" trifecta is in play.

So -- the news media was 'very helpful' in explaining what had happened to the kid to make him act that way, instead of, you know, selfishly telling only the most headline grabbing side of the story.

Drugs? Mental illness? A fight? What is his history? The court obviously knows since he's allowed out with supervision. Something had to set him off. Will he be going back to court? On what charges? Who's blood was he covered with? Had he previously been a PIA in school or just a regular student? Was he jumped on his way to class?

BTW, are news announcers trained in speaking to the audience in those 'urgent' sounding voices that can make having a cup of coffee sound like a major disaster? I know various preachers and ministers are trained to speak to their parishioners in a certain way -- especially Evangelists. (Though, admittedly, many just kind of pick it up from other Evangelists.)

Either way, insufficient information has been given for me to judge the kid.

No concern about how the kid wound up bloody and shirtless? I have a sneaking suspicion that might be relevant.

I was about to say that any teenager who's still in elementary school may be too "special" to be there anyway, but then I realized they're being very technical with the definition of "teenager."

Plenty of information to judge his mother though. Kid shows up freaked out at elementary school. Let's bring him back a week later!

Yes. Another neat voice fact: You know that calm, midwestern drawl that every pilot seems to have? You're pretty much listening to Chuck Yeager every time you fly, as damn near every pilot (consciously or unconsciously, I'm not sure) imitates him.

This right here. It's actually pretty mind boggling how she would decide that bringing him to the school was a good idea. But, yeah, maybe more info would help.

"He said that the young man didn't have any conditions on where he could go, other than he had to be accompanied either by his mother or his father," Riesgraf said.

I suspect that's going to change very soon or this teen is going to be put down, like the rabid weasel that he is.

Yeah! Maybe he's mentally ill, but who gives a fark! He acted out so he's just a subhuman animal, never mind the cause or whether or not the kid is actually safe to be around now! KILL HIM! KILL HIM!

/Look, you farking asshole, the kid is probably mentally ill judging from the details of this story--quick episode, safe to release now. That, or on drugs. Either way, he's not a rabid weasel, he's a  child.

So....

we expel children from school for making a waffle into a gun shape....

we put children in counseling who draw pictures that involve any form of violent activity....

but we don't put this kid in jail?

Kinda what I was thinking. Wait, check that, exactly what I was thinking.

(In my opinion, it's why we need some kind of national education policy standards, so that an incident that's worth "blind bureaucratic overreaction" in one district isn't just brushed along in the other. Let's pick a median, how about?)

Welcome to Utah news coverage......Nobody believes me when I tell them how lousy that station in particular is.  They do this ALL the time. Headline will read - Dangerous Strep increasing in Daycares - Story says, "While there have been no increase of Strep cases in daycare....."

KSL is facepalm news, all the time.
Thus I am forced to gather the real truth from FARK.

And I went up there, I said, "Shrink, I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I wanna kill. Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill, KILL, KILL." And I started jumping up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL," and he started jumping up and down with me and we was both jumping up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL."

Since privacy laws prevent the court or school from releasing any information you can understand why other parents have a concern. Maybe the kid has mental issues. Nobody really knows what they are or if they are being treated. If they are is it appropriate to have the kid back after a week. Maybe the kid has a violent history and now the episodes are getting more significant.

But parents of other kids should just sit back and not worry because somebody somewhere knows whats going on but can't say anything. You'll find out more when your kid gets stabbed.. maybe

Good old rock. Nothing beats that.

I had a student that would chuck rocks at other kids, and teachers. His mom told us it was our fault for having rocks on our campus. Same kid was picked up from school by the cops the following year for abusing his little sister. I really felt like calling up the mom and saying, "You know, it was really your fault for providing him a victim."

Back to TFA, though, it says mom brought him with while she volunteered at an end-of-year party. I think the PTA needs to do a little more outreach so that volunteers with crazy-ass kids can take a day off.

a witness, Tiffinie McAfee, said at the time.

I really hate the naming trend of picking a decent name for a kid and then spelling it with hookt onn fonix. A relative named her son Brodric Jacsen. Broderick Jackson is a great name. Classy. Sounds like a superspy. Brodric Jacsen? White trash. Oh wait, THEY ARE! The sad thing is I actually really like that particular relative. She's got a good head on her shoulders, takes great care of her grandma, and has adopted her two kids. But Brodric Jacsen? *FACEPALM*

Even a link from the main article about the original incident doesn't go into much detail. Mental illness did get a mention, though.
