Did it fall out of their vaginas?

I like the city manager.

"At this point because the sand has not been disturbed or grated, it is consider a natural desert state for that property," adds Martinez, "Desert is desert, and there's going to be sand blowing in the desert."

It almost sounds like he's daring them to disturb it

"I'd just like to know when they're going to clean this up because it is offending all the residents here," states Chacon.

Well we CAN'T HAVE THAT!!! Government, fix, now!!!

Put a sign on it that says "Do not disturb the sand"
Someone will disturb it.

"You'll see people out there. It's [the sand pile] so high, when we have dinner, they can actually watch us having dinner," shares resident Ray Chacon.
You'll see people in the house having dinner.  It's [the house] so close, when we have dinner, they can actually watch us having dinner," shares transient laborer Mississippi Gary.

Heh...news ticker had 109 degrees at 5 PM.

Yeah, but it's a dry heat.

I'll bet they complain about the heat, too. But if anyone mentions Climate Change, they yell, "It's the desert! It's supposed to be hot!"

Seriously!
If it's a bunch of trash, and it offends you that much, grab a rake and a trash bag.
Or would that be harder than to just sit around and biatch about it?

If it was the next door neighbors, would they be complaining? Probably not. Most likely they're complaining about the transients because they're not paying taxes to be there.

I'm glad they decided not to leave this shot on the cutting room floor.

It's like moving in next door to a farm and complaining about smelling farm animals.

Moved from that area last fall. Yes, people out there are that stupid.

Ahh, my home town on the main page. Sadly, this is the level of news out here.

'Though, depending on which direction that hill is facing, it's probably growing.

No shortage of undeveloped developments-in-planning out in this sand pit.

This. Unfortunately, I live just down the street from the area in the article. There's always dirt and sand blowing around and piling up over roads and curbs. It's part of living here, along with the occasional horrible smells that come wafting over from the Salton Sea.

/Hates the desert and really wants to move back to Montana

I've lived in California my whole life. We are always shocked when we hear that other states have this "weather" thing. I mean when did that start?

*sigh* So much for community organizing.

Seriously, if you all are THAT offended, get a group together on the weekend, have everyone bring a box of trash bags and shovels/rakes, and get to work.

/like the dog that sits on a nail, when the nail gets that uncomfortable, he'll move

Dudes, can you imagine the problems that crap is going to cause your pool filter? Just pave the whole thing over and be done with it. Worked for Los Angeles.

"I'd just like to know when they're going to clean this up because it is offending all the residents here," states Chacon.

Who is "they"?  The article never mentions who owns the property.  If it's unowned or if it bothers the residents so much, maybe they should pick up a rack and start picking up the trash themselves.

Maybe if they started a rumor that there is high yield gold sand underneath the sand which was piled up............

Nope.  The pile would be much higher if it had...

Add another to the contingent of people who live in the neighborhood. We should have an informal Fark party at Neil's sometime.

Transients are a problem in the city as a whole, but especially on land like this that's owned by developers who are just letting it sit because their project is dead in the water. So yeah, not much we can do about that other than call in the police to shoo them off whenever we noticed they've made camp.

But, seriously, complaining about the trash? I don't care that it's 115 outside. If it's bad enough to bother you, get a trash bag and clean it up yourself. By the time anyone notices you're trespassing, it won't matter because the mess is gone!

Frank Herbert saw the same phenomenon up in Washington and used it to make art.

Which his son promptly desecrated.

Uh, I see what you did there.  And you couldn't be more wrong.  His son made it more accessible.
