You know, I would figure her ratings would have gone up when that story broke.  I know I would try to watch her show more often hoping she'll bust out the N-bomb while deep frying some butter.

Martha Stewart also got the shaft and she bounced back. I think Deen will too. Hell, even Al Sharpton is defending her.

the complaint regarding her resturaunt makes for some great reading.  The guy who was running was the reason that the rest of us have to put up with HR people.

LINKY

I'm seeing a remake of 9 to 5, starring John Goodman as the abusive boss, and Angela Basset as the long suffering general manager.

All of the Food Network's top-rated shows have a competitive or reality-show-like element to them, the Journal notes, including "Food Network Star," "Chopped," and "Next Iron Chef."

...which, of course, means that we'll be getting yet another one in Deen's place.

/Rachael Ray, you're next!

Yea I think his reputation has gotten so bad that he knows the best way to help the black community is to attach himself to people to help attract more hate.

It's a TV network. Ultimately, it fired her because they thought it was the most pragmatic response to the situation. Her comments -or, rather, the publicization of her comments- almost certainly played a central role in that. The timing is too perfect. If ratings alone were an issue, they could have fired her for ratings at any time this season, or maybe even sooner or later. Something had to make them choose now.

At the same time, it's also true that networks have tried to hold onto people who did things far worse than Paula Deen, if their ratings were high enough. Maybe this network would have tried to hold onto her too, if she was bringing in enough viewers. In that sense, her ratings may have indeed played a role, though only in the sense of closing off what might otherwise have been an option.

She needs an adviser to tell her to shut the fark up. Her latest appearance/apology was beyond embarrassing. She wants to meet with anyone who's done the same thing? I'm not sure what she's trying to accomplish.

Or why should she come back to the limelight at all? At this point she should have enough money to live comfortably.

There will come a time (and I hope it is really soon) when using the phrase "reality" when pitching a show will get you fired on the spot.... and based on the same quote not everything needs to be a god damn competition where the "winner" is always picked by some high school-esqe popularity contest.

I heard on NPR this morning that Jesse Jackson had offered to help Ms Dean with her PR problem. Was in my truck laughing my ass off thinking about the South Park people who annoy you episode. Were they trolling or did that really happen?

Paula Deen's contract was set to expire at the end of the month even before all this shiat.  The fact the Food Network hadn't extended her contract previously shows they were at least considering getting out.

I figured that after Beetusgate* she was hanging by a thread with the network anyway, and this recent development was the straw Buick that broke the camel's back.

* In which her recipes caused diabetes, and Deen herself was diagnosed with Brimley-itis but kept it hush-hush until she got an endorsement for an anti-beetus drug

His cooking isn't all that great- basic cajun- but if you take a drink every time he says "oysher", you'll get hammered before he plates his main dish.

The one on the today show? I saw that on The Soup last night and it was really weird...

She was making the face of someone who was crying, and making the voice of someone who was crying...but she wasn't crying. It was really creepy.

Also she said "I is what I is"

She's got to be in her upper 50s. I'm sure she has enough money to retire. There's no reason for her to carry on about it. Just go quietly sip some sweet tea by a creek somewhere for the next 20 years.
