I'm still of the belief that this is a local news story since they did charge Z and take it to trial.  However, yesterday's antics make it the most hilarious local news story in some time.

Her shriek when the Defense said she'd have to return for a few more hours of testimony was priceless

His lawyers aren't exactly top notch, but at this point it is like hitting home runs at batting practice.  Unless the prosecution has something big up their sleeve I'm having trouble seeing why there is even a trial.

You know the prosecution and defense are both coming off as pretty incompetent here.  I'm not really sure what to make of that.

Love this line from the linked article:

Jeantel is often described as the state's star witness, but defense attorneys say she's been inconsistent in her account of the shooting. She was gruff at times in court Wednesday, and replied with exasperation upon learning she be back for as much as two more hours on the stand Thursday: "What?" she exclaimed.

Defense attorneys say she's been inconsistent?  By that you mean she openly was contradicting herself and admitted to lieing and making the story sound as good as possible for the prosecution?  Talk about an understatement.

Well, after yesterday we know Zimmerman is going to walk (as many predicted from a legal perspective).
Worse, I am really wondering about Martin's state of mind after having experienced his girl-friend for a while. Being stupid is not a crime, applying stupid to action is.

I_C_Weener: I'm still of the belief that this is a local news story since they did charge Z and take it to trial.  However, yesterday's antics make it the most hilarious local news story in some time.

Yeah, it *WAS* a local news story of no real import, until certain elements decided to make it a national story for political reasons.

Based on the testimony of some of the prosecution witnesses so far, though, it looks like they are going to be hoist on their own petard.

One of the prosecution witnesses previously signed a petition to "Prosecute Zimmerman, killer of our son". Yeah, I'm sure she's going to give the whole, unvarnished truth.   Oh, and it appears that at least some of what she testified to in court (motion of sound of the scuffle from left to right) she had never previously mentioned in her prior statements to police.

Another prosecution witness repeatedly says 3 shots were fired, when all the other witnesses and the forensic evidence shows only 1 shot was fired.

Then they put up a witness who bases her judgement on the relative sizes of the individuals based upon the pictures she saw in the media (you know, porky adult Zimmerman and cherubic 12 year old Martin).

And don't get me started on Ms. "Got No Credibility, But Plenty Of Attitude" who is supposed to be the star witness for the prosecution.   She comes pre-impeached for the defense, which the prosecution *MIGHT* have been able to overcome if she didn't act the way she did on the stand, and since she's got a couple more hours of cross-examination this morning ("WHAT!?!?"), it's only going to get better for Zimmerman.

Of course, the prosecution is over-reaching on this one, and I think they know it, but they have to look like they are doing *SOMETHING* to avoid potential rioting.  I think they know they have a losing case, but when they do ultimately lose, they can say "Hey, we are very, very disappointed, but we did our best, blah, blah, blah, please don't blame us, etc.".

You have to wonder, what witnesses can the defense call that are better than what the prosecution has called so far?

Really?  The only "incompetent" thing I've seen from the defense so far is a knock-knock joke that fell flat.  They've been pretty effective in impeaching the prosecutions witnesses on cross examination, which is really all they have to do to establish "reasonable doubt".

Although, as Thoguh says, it's like hitting home runs at batting practice.  Pretty easy to get hits when the prosecution is pitching witnesses nice and slow right over the plate.

When the news reported how bad her testimony was, I thought they were stretching the truth to sell the article. However, I watched the interview and couldn't believe how unhelpful she was for the prosecution. I guess the prosecution just heard "witness" and ran with it without interviewing her?

Agreed,  even the outrage here at fark has seemed to die down.  I don't think we'll be having 1000+ posts in these threads any more as things become more apparent he'll be found not guilty

It was so hard to understand her that I very nearly missed her admission that she cleaned up the account she gave in order to help Trayvon and get Geroge arrested. How the hell the stenographer is even able to transcribe any of her testimony is beyond me. The only parts where I can consistently make out the words is when she's interrupting one of the attorneys to say 'YES' or 'YEAH', and when she gets angry and starts yelling at the defense attorney.

It was a local story of no real importance until certain people thought they could make the case a larger one about race.

It's going to backfire on them.
