But even Lego's latest Mindstorms NXT 2.0 kit has its limitations: it can't jump online for instance, so you can boss it around from afar.

Valid for the jump online part, but ummm..  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jfedor.nxtremotecont rol&hl=en">https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jfedor.n xtremotecont rol&hl=en

LucklessWonder: The Stealth Hippopotamus: Is a Raspberry Pi the new 3d printer?!

but, you can most likely run a 3d printer from a Pi....

I mostly use my pi to run XBMC. when Im not messing around with GPIO ports...

arduino is better for a robot brain however considering if you are running the Pi with a standard wheezy OS, I/O is dependent to the resources of a true multi tasking OS, so I/O commands to the PI's GPIO are not in "real time".

of course... this considering one is running a variation of the rasbarian build... If one were to build an OS specifcly for useing the GPIO in real time... well...yeah...

but it is nice that that I can have a sd card for an OS to do playfull gadget stuff, and another to do media stuff when I am not messing around with gadget stuff.

it (the Pi) really is a fun little thing to have around if you are into such things. But at the end of the day, it IS a Novelty.
