We're all getting dumber, aren't we?  Any farkwad with a few correctly firing neurons would have known that this guy was joking.  Sure, it wasn't really funny, and was in extremely bad taste, yet, the fact remains, it was a joke.  END OF STORY.  The most the local officials should have done is to send an officer by to let the stupid teen know that an overly concerned canadian lady who obviously failed Internet 101 by not knowing the meaning of LOL and JK misunderstood his post, and he would be wise to remember in the future that everyone can read Facebook, and not everyone knows when your kidding.

Regardless the explanation, I still contend that we are all degenerating in to a nation of reactionary intolerant mouth breathers, and there is no end in sight.

Retarded people taking things out of context, any sane reader would see the argument at hand and know.

Typically, under the law, there needs to be some reasonable cause for worry, such as a clear ability to carry out the "threat".

Sure, investigate, read the facebook page.  See there was a video game based argument and *gasp* sarcasm was used making light of the retarded argument that video games cause violence.  Maybe have a talk with the parents and kid. Close case.

Paranoia is rampant in this country.  When it is found that irrational people become unreasonably fearful they should be written off like any other crazy.

But now that it's made national news, what message does that send to actual violent crazy people?  Don't warn people, just do it.

Yeah, let's teach them how to achieve their goals instead of quietly observing and investigating and arresting only when there's probable cause.

"only 2 months after Sandy hook"?

Jesus.  Leno and his counterparts only took days to make jokes.

He's been in jail since February? What a farked up society we have. Taken in context you can pretty well determine it's a joke. But okay, we want to be extra positive, so how about we check if this kid has had any history of mental problems or violent behavior and if it comes out clean we send him back home in time for lunch with a stern warning not to be an idiot online?

Better arrest everybody who has ever written a novel or screen play that has violence in it.

BS. The case of OMG v WTF clearly established that the use of LOL JK means the threats were not intended to be carried out.

Ok, so let's get this straight.  Don't get me wrong I think he was an idiot, but don't American's have rights to freedom of speech?  We pay good tax money for Nazi's and White Supremest types to be protected by police while saying how they are going to or want to kill people and they are PROTECTED.  Some kid posts something and he is in jail for 8 years?    Kid should not have gone to jail for this, he perhaps should have been secretly watched by the FBI like the rest of us but to go to jail for a clear Freedom of Speech act is a bit over the top.

Liberals and their police state. Every time someone gets butthurt, someone else has to go to jail for it.

They made jokes. They didn't get up there and threaten to kill and eat the still beating hearts of school children.
/You know Context?
/Should drop the charges but the kid was farking stupid.

Their context was the same as this kids context.  The quality of the joke is immaterial(they were all bad).  There was no threat, only a mock statement with obvious disclaimers present.

Wouldn't it be funny if you were raped by like 5 guys?
/lol, jk

"Oh yeah, I'm real messed up in the head, I'm going to go shoot up a school full of kids and eat their still, beating hearts."

I was sympathetic until I read his comment. He deserves whatever is coming his way, if he's 19 years old and doesn't even know how to use a comma.

Zero tolerance = zero intelligence. It's always easier just to follow orders than actually judge something on its unique merits.

/Still, 18 years is enough time to learn not to do stupid shiat on the internet.

Arrested? Fine. In jail since FEBRUARY? Facing EIGHT YEARS? Nice land of the free you've got there, America.
