I, for one, am disgusted by Representative Pelosi's callous disregard for the concerns of the mentally ill.

Well... yeah, gonna go with Pelosi on this one.

And this, once again, bears repeating in a redundant and repetitious fashion all over again.

Points awarded to Ms Pelosi.

Our judges say they also would have accepted a "coo coo!" noise accompanied by a spinning of the index finger next to the ear as a suitable response.

Someone should point out to Bachman that for thousands of years, no society defended the legal right of women to have a job, vote, hold political office, or otherwise be treated equally to men.  Should we reverse all of women's rights based on that?

Pelosi is a tough, smart lady. I like her.

When George W. and the Republicans were trying to privatize Social Security after the election in 2004, reporters and Republicans tried to put the onus on Democrats to come up with an "alternative". Which in itself was a trap - once Democrats "admitted" Social Security would need "saving" then it would be all over except for the details. So when asked when the Democrats would offer an alternative, Pelosi responded "How about 'never'? Does 'never' work for you?"

Wasn't that her entire platform?

Might have been slightly more amusing if she said "What difference does it make?".

That would have really trolled the conservatives!

Is Ms. Bachmann feeling oppressed?

(Why does the dozen comment thread get green and the 30 comment thread gets sucked down the memory hole?)

In fairness, she isn't exactly the best test case to prove the move's merits. Maybe Margaret Chase Smith?

Or "Is It Really So Strange", or "I Want The One I Can't Have", or maybe "Girlfriend in a Coma".

But definitely "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore".

Yeah, I have a feeling she'd be just fine with women losing their right to vote.

Pelosi was a better Speaker in two years than Boehner has been in four.  If not for the Senate, she would still be in charge.

2013-06-26 07:09:42 PM
"Marriage was created by the hand of God. No man, no even a Supreme Court, can undo what a holy God has instituted."
That raises two interesting thoughts:

1. You're right; God IS omniscient, omnipresent, omnibenevolent, and omnipotent. And yet...man DID undo this. Ergo, it must not have been instituted by God. Your own logic demands that conclusion.

2. That language sounds awfully similar to the "whom God has joined, no man can part asunder" language that was used to suppress divorce for literally centuries. Divorce is now common - especially in the Bible Belt and the deepest red of the red states - and somehow, society goes on. This indicates that it will likely survive in this instance too.

/ oh yeah, Bachmann is also full of shiat
// and Pelosi's quote should have been 'who cares what Michele Bachmann thinks?'

It still amuses me how much hatred she gets from the Right...and how little they elaborate on WHY they hate her so much. Seriously, when was the last time you heard a Republican justify their hatred of her via anything OTHER than "She's just so darn LIBRUL!" and the out-of-context "We have to pass it to find out what's in it" nonsense?

And yet, when liberals criticize Bachmann or Palin for any of the massive piles of dumb bullshiat they produce, we're "afraid of strong, conservative women".

Wouldn't surprise me if Pelosi was thinking it and cut herself off before she poked a hornet's nest of derp.

Because she was effective. You don't see the same invective towards Boehner because the man is a bumbling clown.

The dregs are learned to hate any Speaker of the House, for some reason. When I talk to people that say they hated Pelosi as speaker I always ask them why. Every single time they are completely speechless. Literally no reason whatsoever. I think she was very successful, passing all sorts of legislation - including the largest overhaul of our ballooning healthcare system.

Of course the right hates her because she just did her job.

There are two women that the right wing has, like, set-up an industry around with respect to irrationally hating and they are Hilary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi.

Thanks gays!  My marriage is now ruined!  As I live the last days of my heterosexual union, I shall go home, tell my wife that we must consummate our marriage one last time before 0Bama's gay commandos force us to gay marry, and film the act from every angle.  You know.  For posterity.

A Terrible Human: Well I'm sure Michele's husband is happy with the decision made by the Supreme Court today.

No, because it's more of a sign that gay people are no longer hated pariahs, and if he were coming of age now, maybe he'd not have been so afraid of what he is, maybe he wouldn't have felt the need to deny it and submerge his entire personality in denial and self-hatred.  But it's far too late for him to change now, far too late for him to admit anything.  The decisions he's made have so alienated himself from his true nature that he can never return.

So he will do what he always does in these situations, when the pain is too much.  He'll go off to his Jesus Room, a darkened little closet on the top floor of his house.  He tells Michelle he's going to go pray, and he'd like to be alone.  And when she leaves him, he goes into the Jesus Room, and closes the door.  He takes off all his clothes, and then puts a woman's nylon stocking over his face and wraps it around his neck, tightly.  Then he gets a frayed, faded copy of "Boy's Life" magazine, and he masturbates furiously as he sings "Amazing Grace."  Then after he has an angry, confused orgasm, he weeps bitterly for an hour.
