This seems a foregone conclusion, but I think Uruguay, if they bring their A game might throw a spanner in the works of the bookies favored Brazil-Spain final.

Italy had a slim chance with Balo in the lineup, they have no chance without him.

You can't seriously compare playing the semi-finals of the confederations cup to losing the World Cup Final at home. It's not even in the same ball park. The confederations cup doesn't matter,  it's World Cup lite.

It seems they do the "just say no to racism" thing before every single soccer match....in the world.

Wide open match so far, sure Forlan is kicking himself over than pen save.

Uruguay = Argentina with less skill and more elbows

This feels like a 1-0 match or even like it will go to PKs.

Curiously enough, we haven't had a 1-0 game yet this confederations cup. Surprising considering Spain's in it.

Fred... Really? That guy is going to land a huge contract and really disappoint someone.

Forlan's really kicking himself now.

Still think Uruguay can come back for at least the draw.

Uruguay had that in the box FOREVER

So... Brazil vs. Uruguay at Maracana in elimination game of global tournament. Brazil scores first goal, Uruguay scores equalizer.

I WONDER HOW THIS ENDS

Seriously, how was that not a first-touch clearance? Short pass inside the box, really?

THEY PICKED UP THE MARACANA AND MOVED IT TO BELO HORIZONTE

THEY DO THAT FOR EVERY MATCH

WHY DO YOU THINK THE WORLD CUP COSTS SO MUCH

Mind. Blown.

Do you think that the USA team has a single player that could start for Brazil?

Bradley. Maybe...

Based on his current form, Jozy could probably give Fred a run for the #9 spot.

Generally whoever we've got in goal that day. Just in general. The women too. That's our thing. We don't have quite the firepower of the northern/central European goalies, we don't have a Casillas on hand, but we've got some serious depth at the position.

Tim Howard, probably. Julio Cesar's not as good as he used to be, the saved penalty this game notwithstanding.

Neymar. I hate you. Good lord.

2013-06-26 04:53:46 PM
Maracanazo in reverse. That's all it took it seems, a change in venue changes the scoreline.

2013-06-26 05:01:31 PM
Good game. Uruguay looke like taking it for a few minutes there.

Now on to tomorrow, where Spain are going to shaft a Balotelli-less (and maybe Pirlo-less) Italy.

Casillas better than Howard?  Debatable right there.

Late to the game, but i want to echo the sentiment on neymar.  He is so talented, but god, he is such a little biatch.  I hate that diving BS, and i hate the rolling around trying to sell it even more.  I really wish FIFA would grow a pair and hand out some real fines to these players when it is obvious they dove.

Go anyone but Italy!

So the question is will Italy try and play or will they do a "Holland" and try to kick the Spainish out of the game.

Money's on catenaccio.

Italy doesn't really play like that anymore. But then, no major national team really plays like their stereotype anymore except spain, and that's only because their stereotype was recently formed.

Spain vs. Italy is the peak of why most people hate soccer. We'll get through this together everyone...maybe. We have to believe.

2013-06-27 03:25:41 PM
Pirlo is just money with his passes today. If Balo were still up front, Spain might be in serious trouble.

2013-06-27 03:45:01 PM
What an amazing one touch pass by Pirlo a minute ago.

2013-06-27 03:49:40 PM
Great half from Italy, but they really need a finisher out there. El Sha to come on at the break maybe?

Spain is already in big trouble, though I agree Balotelli would just add to that. If Italy can sustain this pace, I like their chances a whole lot.

/would love to see Giovinco come in for Gilardino.

both goalies have been very good today

Navas has lightning pace, him and Silva are going to tear some defenses apart in the Prem. Hopefully, he isn't the victim of a reducer or two.

The Under-20 World Cup is also going on this week.  Unfortunately, the US got smacked down 4-1 by Ghana today to send them home last in their group.
