she was asked if she had said n***er and she replied: "of course". she grew up in and lived in a time and place where that was acceptable. so what. bad on her but ok for some rapper to pepper his misogynistic song with it? horseshiat. it's a derogatory term but all this OMG SHE SAID THE N-WORD crap is the height of pathetic PC bullshiat.

What these Deen defenders DON'T get is this: It's not that she said the dreaded "n-word" thirty some years ago, I don't give a shiat about the words you say in private to people, it's your actions that dictate if you're a racist. And in her case, being a public figure and all, you are under more scrutiny that the average person. And who the hell thinks that dressing up black people in a slave themed wedding would be a good idea? And if you did, why the HELL would you tell anyone who worked for you that, knowing that statements like that can will bite you in the ass?

Secondly, on this WHOLE issue of "wah wah wah, why can black people say the n-word and we can't", two things for you: Okay, I'm a black guy myself, and do you think I go into work blurting out "Wassup my nubianz" to my "fellow" black people on the job? My ass would be getting wrote up at the least or FIRED for being unprofessional. shiat, FARK acts like all of black America is at some rap studio 24-7 talking about "making money, killing nubians, etc." Secondly, let me call your wives by the name of "cutie pie", "sweet tits", or any other pet name she has? Oh, you don't like that? Well, if you call her "sweet tits", why can't I? Why can't your boss or any other stranger do it? Exactly. Lastly, just why in the HELL do you all want to emulate the rappers of the world? I thought all rappers were thugs and crackheads with 8 babymommas and 12 arrests. You mean, you WANT to sound illiterate, thuggish, and ghetto? In other words, if you want to say the "n-word", you are acting like a n-word!

I'm not "PC" either, but I've found out that people who complain about "political correctness" are the most sensitive whiners around that you when you knock their sacred cows (here in GA, it's making fun of country music, the Confederate flag, talking shiat about rednecks) they'll start sobbing about "disrespectin' mah heritage", and I suspect PD is similar is this regard.

Political correctness...  Or, you know, what most sane, educated people call "manners."

Be as rude as you wish. Say whatever you wish.  Just stop whining about how persecuted you are when people react to your being a rude and obnoxious troll or tedious human being.

It's a pretty simple concept that most Kindergarteners can grasp.

Why people here are having trouble understanding things a five year old can is really strange.

Her previous publicist quit 18 months ago when she found out Deen had concealed her diabetes for 3 years and then planned to endorsed a Novo Nordisk drug for her condition. This was after 6 years on the gravy train, but even she couldn't keep holding her nose. The lawsuit was filed 2 months later.

Her current team is completely incompetent, or just arrogant. The latter can lead to the former, though.

Given the description of the corporate and restaurant staff in the complaint, it's very easy to believe.  Incompetent and/or yes men.

Sister Mary Farker: Anyone who thinks Paula Deen is the subject of a witch hunt for being un-PC needs to read the actual complaint. It's horrific. I was inclined to try to understand her till I read it.  Also I'm cheesed off that folks think all white women of a certain age and region think or act like her or that it's understandable if they are like her.  She doesn't get to own Southern food, either. I and my relatives need no help from her to cook a lot better than she does and more healthfully (if we feel like it that day).

Here's the complaint. Go read it and see if you think you can defend her after that. So far none of it is contradicted by anything Ms. Deen has said in her deposition. The wedding in question that was being planned was her brother's, btw.

I have to go make some jambalaya now.

I agree, I went and read the entire complaint when it was linked previously.  Brother Bubba really needs an ass whoopin.  Lots and lots of bad things have happened, the n word ain't nearly the big issue here.

That being said, I don't feel bad for her, but I am not out to get her either.  Conducting yourself in an appropriate manner when you make your living in the public spotlight to some degree is the cost of making the grade.  She got called out on something she did a while ago.  Not so bad.  Trying to defend it, very bad.  As others have noted, she should have let the PR staff handle it, laid low, issued an apology, donated some money somewhere, etc etc. and it probably would not have reached this level.

But I don't think she's going to wonder where her next meal is coming from.  She'll be just fine.

She clearly contradicted herself more than once after Matt asked her is she used the word more than one time; to which she replied no. Then he asked if she lied under oath when she was quoted saying that "of course she had used it more than one time". She replied "i was honest in my testimony" then went on and on about her grandson staying up past his bedtime.

My official review of the interview: meh, who the hell cares. southern woman is racist, any surprise?

Paula is all about the money, which is why the vast majority of people do their jobs anyway.  She has worked very hard, and gone through alot, to get to the point that she won the farking lottery, professionally speaking.  When Food Network picked her up, her life changed.  She's tied alot of who she is into this celebrity persona she's created, and of course the money.  It's a lethal combination - if she loses popularity or income, her whole world probably seems like it's coming undone.

That said, I have no sympathy.  Live by the TV, die by the TV.  I agree with Food Network - it's not about what she said 30 years ago, it's about what she's saying now.  And her "apologies" are not only more racist than the original comment, but they also ring hollow once she starts running her mouth.

It reminds me of my grandmother who refers to my same-sex black boyfriend as my "special colored friend". It is offensive, and we correct her, but it is not done in malice. Yes, there is a big difference between that and reenacting pre civil war plantations, but I think both come from a place of genuine, and long standing ignorance. I feel the solution here is education not aggression.

DubtodaIll: airsupport: DubtodaIll: Right but associating her with murderers is totally cool because she's a racist.

You are reading far too much into my choice of analogies.  I chose murderers because they were extreme examples of the point I was trying to make, but examples nonetheless.

I am not "associating her with murderers", I am using murderers in an example of a similar trait of human nature.

Calm the fark down.

WAAAH DONT CALL ME ON MY BULLshiat OPINIONS

That doesn't even make sense.

Look, pal, it's obvious you want an argument, not a discussion or a sharing of opinions.

Get back to me when you want to talk like a grownup.

At this point she should just lay low for a bit. She was right in the fact that we have all said dumb stuff, but 99.99% dont have our stuff broadcasted all over. Just here on fark. I can only imagine the stuff that would come out about me if I was ever in the public eye.

Meh. I've already had my fill of Paula Deen tears. Today, I will savor Republican tears over the Supreme Court striking down DOMA.

I'm interested. At what point does it become unacceptable? What would she have to say and do for you to say 'not cool'? bearing in mind no one is suggesting she go to jail, she just doesn't get a comfy telly career anymore. And if she goes on TV shows and says 'poor me', the public get to say, 'not so much'.

On a scale of 1 to 10 on the importance meter, I give this a negative 20. She's a TV cook...OMG, she may be/is racist...ohnoes! (rolls eyes). Yeah, this is news alright.

I think she might be delusional. She seems to really not understand that some people find her actions racist. It looks like she really thinks her only mistake is using the n word 30 years ago and not how she treated black people in the years since.

Also, Jodi Arias wouldn't have convicted herself.  O.J. Simpson wouldn't have voted for his own indictment if he'd been on the grand jury.

And Murderin' Mike Mahoney wouldn't have thrown the switch on Old Sparky and executed himself, neither.

Seriously? She didn't kill anyone.

I won't judge you, Paula. Your buttery cuisine is just too damn good. Too many other things that are actually important to worry about.

Maybe even get a tie-in with Chick-fil-A...
