On my way to the office yesterday morning there were still people drinking in the streets. I have a hunch they weren't going to make it to work.

Fire them all.

The kennedy inbound today is a breeze without the edens traffic jamming everything in at the junction.  There is a God, and he loves the good people of the NW side.

I could see that there was a good chance my basement was flooding on the way out the door this morning - so I kept on going and texted my wife so she could take care of it - because that is the kind of guy I am

I made it in yesterday, but I was definitely still drunk. I barely even remember getting coffee.

By noon I wanted to kill myself, and definitely didn't get anything done.

2013-06-26 11:55:16 AM
I got to work late yesterday, but I am salary and got my work done, so it was no big deal.  I think about 20% of the office was in the same boat, and we only had one person call in for a "personal day".  All in all, it was very quiet in the morning and things didn't pick up till late afternoon.  My boss is also considering closing the office from Friday during the parade so that people can go and enjoy, but I am going regardless.

2013-06-26 11:55:44 AM
My friend made it in drunk and she isnt going to the parade. She said she didnt want to be stealth groped by dirty old men. I told her if I was there I would go and cover her boobs cause Im a gentlemen like that.

FTA: Challenger says that means big losses for companies.
"We see millions of dollars in productivity losses."

...
Challenger's advice for bosses: "If you can't beat them, join them."

So the advice is to have even less productivity?

It's not like when I get enough sober sleep I do anything other than waste time on fark and other sites anyway.

Productivity is for suckers.

Yet Sportcenter yesterday featured one giant circle jerk on Lebron James.  Seriously, I didn't see one damn thing about the Stanley cup (was watching at a bar.)

You're better off watching The Weather Channel in hopes of in-depth hockey coverage than ESPN, and have been for some time.

Not true, they showed the pic that Lebron tweeted of his custom Blackhawks jersey.

Also, for those going, no back packs will be allowed, per the city.

I have no idea how they will enforce this.

I called into work and just worked on my Mustang all day. I wasn't going to be productive with that loss hanging over my head.

Plus it gave me a chance to listen to the finger pointing all day on The Sports Hub.

Surprisingly, not much.

That's just what I was expecting.

It was more or less, "the Bruins shouldn't have even beat the Leafs in reality, house money, lost to the better team in the finals etc."

I made it to work, but the little finger pointing I heard during drive time involved discussions around Chara being on the ice for 10 of the last 12 goals.  Believe it or not, there was quite a bit of complimenting going around for Chicago's team - and specifically, they complimented Quenneville's ability to get the team to win again after having roster turnover from their last cup, as well as 2 new assistant coaches.  Then they went on to say that Chicago's top forward line was the best line in the playoffs - where they had made a case that Krejci's line was the best from the beginning of the playoffs, Chicago's top line surpassed them in the cup finals with regard to being effective shift after (f'ing) shift.
But someone did call in and say Julien should be fired.
After that, they've already moved on to how they should lock up Rask long term and which free agents they should bring back next year.

The Bruins did a hell of a job in the playoffs this year and certainly gave the Blackhawks a run for their money. This talk of a "choke job" is just utter bullshiat. Many of the Blackhawks were resigned to going to game 7 but then they tied it up.

I know I wouldn't have felt too bad if the Blackhawks had lost in game 7 to the Bruins. I'm really happy that the 'Hawks took them in six, though. I don't know if my heart would have been able to take the stress of a game 7 Stanley Cup nail-biter.

"We see millions of dollars in productivity losses"

BULL.  When people call in sick, a good portion of their work HAS to be picked up by other people.  In most cases those people get both sets of tasks with no OT, or minimal OT.

Therefore, you actually see measurable productivity GAINS.  Not profits mind you, but hard, observable GAINS in productivity of the workers who did show up.

You just forgot to figure them into the calculation while for some reason remembering to count a contracted paid benefit to you workers as lost productivity.

That and often times when people take a day off when they're not actually sick, they go out and spend in the wider economy so they are actually contributing.

John Challenger is the president of the Pulling Numbers Out Of Your Ass Club. He's the same guy that they will quote about eleventy billion dollars of lost productivity the Monday after the super bowl and the total lack of fabulousness in the workplace the day after the Tony Awards.I will say this about him, though, he has one he'll of a PR puke working for him.
