Bruxellensis: Can we stop giving her attention yet?
Valiente: Who is this, again?America, if a turd is glistening enough, you'll give it airtime, won't you?
Liz Lemon: FTFA: Deen said she didn't know if African Americans are offended by the n-word. "It's very distressing for me to go into my kitchens and I hear what these young people are calling each other," she told Lauer. She said she had never joined the use of that language. She can't have it both ways.If she really, REALLY doesn't know whether or not African Americans are offended by the N-word, she is more ridiculously stupid than even I thought possible. Also - you don't have to be black to be offended by the N-word. I am lily white, and it makes me sick to hear the N-word coming out of people's mouths. (And please don't start some ridiculous argument with me saying, ..."But rap music". But before you ask, yes, it bothers me there too because to me it trivializes the long and sordid history of the use of the word by making it nothing more than some retarded jingle.)If we are to take her at her word, that her ignorance of this word is real, then why exactly is it "distressing" for her to go into her kitchens to hear what young people are calling each other?Oh, that's right - it's because she's lying. You are either a racist or you're not. Had someone robbed me at gunpoint, at any point in time, it would honestly NEVER occur to me to refer to that person with a racial slur of all things. Wouldn't even cross my mind. Would I call them a motherfarker? Yes, I would. I would also use all other manner of profanity. But my point is, I don't care WHAT this guy did or didn't do to her, this excuse of hers is stupid. And? 30 years ago was 19 farking 83. Not 1950. That excuse is bullshiat too. She's a vile woman, who already deceived her adoring fans once, by hiding her diabetes from them while teaching them how to prepare food that would have a better chance of having them contract Type II Diabetus (much less heart disease) because coming clean would've been bad for her brand. I'd say we know very clearly now what a piece of self-serving shiat she is.I hope she keeps talki ...
TheThighsofTorgo: I'm kind of sad about all this. I met her when she came to the radio station I work at to promote a cookbook she had out at the time. She was the nicest person. She even gave me an autographed cookbook as a gift. Her and her husband seemed like the perfect genteel Southern couple. I guess it was all just PR and image building.BTW, I never used the cookbook, since every recipe seemed like an excuse to dump a pound of butter into whatever you were cooking.
StrikitRich: Who knew that Fark would be loaded with grammar Nazis going after low hanging fruit?

GreatGlavinsGhost: Teknowaffle: Jesus Farking Christ: Dr Dreidel: NeoKhan: IdBeCrazyIf: A fat racist?AKA a Republican? She campaigned for Obama. And apart from the horrific suggestion that the black men serve as wait staff for a retro-themed party, the fact that she may have uttered a racial slur 30 years ago fails to move the needle for me. The statue of limitations on that has passed, and getting pissed about it now just seems like people needing to get pissed about something. She may be less than fully accepting, she may even be tone-deaf (that suggestion above didn't appear to be motivated by malice, just incredible unawareness - she seems kind of dotty anyway), but I doubt she's got Klan robes in the attic or a racist newsletter printed under her name.I kind of have to agree. She may be a product of the old South, but that doesn't mean her views haven't changed (I don't know that they have, don't flame me) or that she isn't at least trying (but from time to time fails spectacularly). Changing attitudes regarding racism takes generations. Decades. And frankly, education.I've been trying to figure out exactly what it is that has people so up in arms.This. This is why people are so up in arms. (Start reading at page 14, paragraph 51)Credit goes to orange whip for posting the link.
Tergah: In my personal opinion the racial divide is being perpetuated by the black community. If a white person of some stature or success or authority does something or says something that they don't like whether it's offensive or not, they are considered racist. It's getting ridiculous. What if I wanted to start White Entertainment Television? Is that racist?National Association for the Advancement of White People? Is that racist?Caucasion Magazine to compete with Ebony or Essence? Is that racist?I can go on... but what's the point. So a public figure said something 30 years ago... does she still need to suffer for it?Personally there are other minorities in this country that have a worse time. Try being ridiculed and hated for your religion because some extremists hijacked planes and flew them into buildings.
