I don't care what anybody says, that shows some serious determination by the Taliban right there.  A lazy terrorist would have waited until they came back down.

There's a reason we haven't been able to annihilate them after a decade of fighting.

It's because they're superior mountain climbers?

How is a mountain climbing expedition in any way a legitimate target for the Taliban?

I was wondering this also.  First off, if you are going to be climbing in Pakistan, how come someone wasn't in charge of bringing the AK and extra mags?  Hippy climbers!!!  Second, if this is about terrorist activity, then some of the climbers would have been captured and ransomed, or beheaded on camera, or some such.

I feel this is either a robbery for their high tech gear, or the living climber set his "friends" up for a "fall"

It's simple, really... your phone is a MOBILE device. "Mobile" is the name of a Canadian alternative rock band out of Montreal, a city in the FRENCH-speaking province of Quebec.

Climbing an 8000m peak is an activity with considerable inherent risk even under the best of circumstances, so I would imagine the possibility of murder by religious fanatics was less of an issue to them than it would have been if they were simple tourists.

Unless by chance the group happened upon the secret hideout of the Taliban.  In that case the terrorists got themselves some involuntary target practice participants.

The taliban are moslem terrorists.  Moslem terrorists hate everybody that isn't moslem.  The taliban saw this guys and noticed they had shoes and teeth.  This meant they were not Afghani, were foreigners and likely not moslem.  Moslem terrorists kill little girls for going to school.  They kill women who refuse to wear a black head to toe body bag.  They kill women for going to work.  Moslems will kill their daughters because they don't like their choices of boyfriends.  Don't believe me?  Just ask that woman in Phoenix.  Wait.  You can't because her dad ran over her with an SUV because he didn't like her boyfriend.
