Well done, subby.  My college bar was busted twice for recycling beer.  Anyone else had The Brunny experience in Toronto?

Collecting the half empty glasses of beer left on the tables at closing time, and pouring them back in the pitchers for resale.

Former home brewer here. The most environmentally destructive aspect was the chemicals used for sanitation, and the huge amounts of water needed for sanitation, cleaning, and cooling the wort. The main byproduct is spent grain, which is great for compost piles.

When the maintenance crew mops of the floor at the Coors Brewery, they squeeze their mops out in a special container then sell it as Keystone Light.

A number of times.  I was a pedicabber for a summer in high school, and lived across from Central Tech.  Ye Olde would serve us all, even though we were only 16.

As to the article, when you buy your grains and hops in extract form, the tanker truck pours to a large holding tank, so no waste at all.

Except the 3 to 10 gallons of waste water per gallon of beer, but that doesn't go to landfill, so it doesn't count I suppose.

Coors is basically dirty tap water, but this is a pretty great thing for them to do.

2013-06-26 02:50:06 PM
a lot of beer factories are zero point waste facilities. even the spill water is collected and distilled to create non-potable NGS which is sold off as ethonal fuel additive, or to folks who redistil it to be potable cheap vodak

People are surprised to find out that Keystone is just the bottom third of the Coors/Coors Light vats that they put in dented Coors Light cans (seriously look, every Keystone can is scratched or dented).

Coors heavy is a perfectly cromulent beer.   I also enjoy a Blue Moon, though I think it tasted better when it was brewed in Memphis.  They have shockingly good water due to the aquifer there.
