FTA: "the group hopes to stop hazing that goes beyond pranks or fun."

What kind of hazing DOESN'T go "beyond pranks or fun"?

/It's called "hazing" for a reason, right?

We called a Thai kid we went to college with "drunken noodles". More braising than hazing.

Hazing is absolutely necessary. Those who don't understand this underscore the need for it.

Think of all the Goldfish that would be saved.

I see Junior is on the wrong side of an argument as always.

our favorite hazing tactic at my old dorm was the "64 slices of American Cheese-a-Thon"

Thank you Simpsons for the inspiration that day.

I generally agree with all of you, and the headline. The article itself even seems "decent", which as we know, you have to be cautious about nowadays.

That being said, the article does not take into account transliteration or cultural differences. That's right folks, I'm sorry to have to tell you, but everybody out there ain't like Americans in cultural terms. When Thais do things - or even if it just happens in Thailand - it tends to happen full bore.

That makes all the difference.

I know exactly what you mean by "full bore."

Never understood hazing. If someone tried some of that stuff with me, I'd at least take a swing at them.

Spoken like someone who is truly insecure about the size of his penis.

It's just bullsh*t bullying to force people into a social pecking order that would not exist if people had power according to personal merit.

Last week my high school age daughter here in Thailand (shut up!) was bummed because her school was having a freshie day where this kind of bs was going to take place. Basically it is the same kind of hazing they do back in the US, and sometimes it gets out of control and people get hurt. In any event it is just designed to let upperclassmen humiliate those under them. I told her if you don't want to go just take the day off and that's what she did. Turns out she was glad she did that and her friends were all envious because they had to eat disgusting stuff and crawl around in mud, etc.
