You know what you get when you cross a segway with a jetski and a tank?  Douche.

2013-06-25 08:15:03 PM
Some idiot is going to crack their skull on that while trying to do a jump off a beach dune.

2013-06-25 08:18:39 PM
That thing somehow looks even gayer than the Segway.

Gone in 26 minutes.

2013-06-25 08:21:56 PM
So now we are one step  closer to a flying car.

2013-06-25 08:22:59 PM
Now you look like a dweeb that's compensating for something if you know what I mean.

2013-06-25 08:25:23 PM
Remember when we used to walk?

2013-06-25 08:26:51 PM
Only a matter of time before cops in full military attire and rifles are riding around on those during demonstrations to "serve and protect"...

He doesn't look like a dweeb, that's for sure.

What's, like, three factors worse than "dweeb?"  That's what he looks like.

Not looking like a dweeb while on a Segway has been scientifically proven to be impossible.

2013-06-25 08:31:56 PM
You're all just jealous because he thought of it first.

2013-06-25 08:32:34 PM
I get the segway and tank but i'm not seeing the skateboard

2013-06-25 08:36:12 PM
I get the tank and jetski.  Where's the balancing part of the Segway?

2013-06-25 08:37:38 PM
$4,000? No thanks, I'll buy a car with that money.

I'll buy a motorcycle and a hooker

Incorrect application of the word dweeb, submitter. Dork is more appropriate.

Solution: Put a 3rd, or 4th wheel on it. Engineering makes dork a geek in one to two easy steps!

That just cracked me up right there. I'm in a fit of giggles.

Look at some of the videos. Similar balance, crouching, occasionally kicking a foot off the ground for balance, etc.

ubermensch: I get the tank and jetski.  Where's the balancing part of the Segway?

It doesn't look like it has any self-balancing aspect. I think the claimed similarity is because it's just intended for one person, is self-powered, moves quickly, has a handle to hold on to, and has two side-by-side "wheels" (actually tracks).

I suspect it may be in the feel when you are on it, and how you want to translate some body movement into subtle changes in direction (compared to the handlebars).

/ Just guessing
// Will totally buy one of these someday when I can afford it
/// Might be a douche'. Okay with that.

Also acceptable.

I think there might be a market for this in rural areas as a horse of 4x4 substitute.

2013-06-25 09:13:46 PM
I should have known. A cursory search for a place to purchase this vehicle that is supposedly available goes to being put on e-mail lists or it being unavailable. Damn vaporware, I would accept a skateboard tank in lieu of my flying car!

If you look at their webpage (bpgwerks) they are marketing a military model. That being said, I've been following them for over a year and can't wait to by one. At 4000.00 it's no more expensive than a new dirt bike.

I think down the road, this could prove valuable as military tech.  Imagine them faster, ripping along at 40-60mph and relatively silent--you could put a lot of men downrange pretty fast over difficult terrains.

It's powered by a 200cc four-stroke.  It's anything but silent.

Stand up PWCs could do backflips in pools.  Get back to me when this guy can do backflips in a large sandbox with that thing.

/Seat?  Seats are for couches
//owns a three-seater couch
///it is still fun to ride it.

OK.  And then when the herd comes through my minefield I can kill a bunch of men in a hurry AND destroy a large financial investment by the enemy.  Nice.

actually, a lot less, a new bike is somewhere near 7k now

LOL

fark: Home of the couch pilot

That machine looks awesome for singletrack. I want to see it hill climbing.

As for looking like a dork: Nobody to see you in the woods anyway. And what kind of losers worry about what other people think about them while riding a vehicle? Get a life, people

200cc 4-stroke doesn't sound terribly stealthy or even close to "silent".  And any soldier will tell ya that an APC with some nice, thick ablative armor is much more preferable for transporting one's ass "downrange" than what is essentially a mamby-pamby, unarmored scooter.  Medical transport potential would be nil (or less).  All making military options limited at best.

It will, however, much like the Segway, probably fare well in the "toys-for-rich-boys" market.
Then comes the YouTube "fail" videos.  Something to look forward to in a few years if ya go for that sorta thing.

Yeah, it's hard to see a good use in a combat zone. Both hands are tied up, no armor, you're standing up making a bigger target, and in an otherwise quiet area people will hear you coming a couple kilometers away.

I could see certain first responders using them, where you want to get some heavy-but-backpackable equipment in to certain areas where a regular vehicle couldn't go. Disaster areas, crowded tourist areas with natural/uneven terrain (e.g. old ruins), etc.

Recreational market seems like a natural though...that would definitely appeal to some people.

Nope. Segways use rechargable batteries with electric motors. These use gasoline engines, like a dirt bike or an ATV.

2013-06-25 10:44:41 PM
$4K?

Buy a great dirt bike and 500 gallons of gasoline instead.
