You know what sucks the MOST about Comcast(And other cable internet providers)? Regardless of the tiered package you pay for, you almost never get the actual speed you pay for. It's not really worth updating, because you get excuses any time your connection is anything more than about half what you are actually paying for.

Maybe you should change phones?  LTE and LTE MAX (100+ mbps speeds!) are already available for the Galaxy S4, BB Q10 ... IN CANADA LOL.  They get everything there last.  (And seriously?  Blackberry is riding the cutting edge again?)

See they should do what Time Warner and AT&T did in NC. Bribe the state assembly with lots of money to block all competition.

Comcast has at least another 20 or 30 years in it.  It might lose out on the big cities but it's going to be damn expensive to wire up all the suburbs with fiber.

No, but to a household it could be beneficial, especially as on-demand streaming gains more and more ground.

2 Netflix SuperHD streams and 2 Hulu streams could (currently) easily use 30 - 35mbps. And Netflix has long-term plans for 4K content.

That does not matter as Canada has lower data caps than even the US.

I actually end up getting a good 5-10Mb higher down than what I'm paying for with Comcast. Blows my mind.

Lucky bastard. Years with Comcast, different houses, different computers, different modems, and different routers, and I usually get about 1/2 to 2/3 what I'm supposed to be getting. If I were you, I would never move, sounds like you're on a good hub. Do you by any chance live in an area with a bunch of old folks' homes, or anything?

Game of Thrones is on Netflix... just finished Season 2.

Yeah, you have to wait for the newer stuff.  But totally worth not paying Comcrap an extra $100 a month for reruns and a billion channels of infomercials and garbage.

You're not far off. For Google fiber to come to town, the municipality must agree to allow it to be completely unregulated and absorb all kinds of costs. It ends up being a huge free lunch for Google.

Comcast just demoed pushing 3 gigabit over coxial. They will need to update to DOCSIS 3.1 to make it production though which isn't done yet which will allow up to 10 Gbps.

The problem is that this cuts into channels that host 3-4 channels. They will need to pay up for IPTv.

Point missed.

Even if they get 3Gb over coax with the new protocol this month, they will still be undercut by the competition because Comcast cannot sell their services for less. They are overleveraged. They'll raise the prices and attempt to block/restrict access to their online content (read: NBC) from competitors. Ultimately, the will spin off / sell NBC and fold because their business model is long-term untenable.

Buy a none shiat router or set the down and up on it so it can balance it out. That isn't an ISP issue.

What I do find interesting is that here, where we have both U-Verse and Comcast, we get exactly what we pay for.  When I was on Comcast, I paid for 15 Mbps and regularly got 14-16.  Now I'm on U-Verse and pay for 18 Mpbs and regularly get 16-20.  It's almost as though they're competing for my business.

Look at it this way: with the money you save each year you could buy the blu-rays when they come out, along with a dozen other HBO shows, and still have left over cash.

(I made my decision to cut the cord based on what I was essentially paying per episode of TV I was watching -- it was like $5/episode).

Here's the thing for me: I figured out that, yeah, we were going to miss some shows that we enjoyed.  However, the amount of lost enjoyment wasn't worth the $150 a month we were spending on cable.

/Oh, and we have my father's HBO Go password, so there's that.
