I'm confused and having a hard time trying to figure out what the article has to do with hating men?

I work at a pet clinic, I see it almost daily. I cry right along with the owners. Give it some time and then adopt from your local shelter...someone out there needs to feel the love you obviously had for your husky.

Ready-set: Dogs ARE Semper Fi(do).

/sorry

Why sorry?

"Fido" and "Fideles" both derive from "Fides" (faith, trust)

Nowadays, we think Fido is a goofy name, but I think "Faithful One" is a damn fine name for a dog.

My sincere condolences. I'm so sorry for your loss.

All I got out of this was a mild cringe from watching people let dogs lick their face. Bleh. To each their own, I suppose.

Some of those 'dogs' were horses.  Great Danes, St. Bernard and a mastiff.  Do servicemen have a thing for huge breeds?

You can easily train a dog NOT to do that.  Mine is.  I still give her hugs and play with her etc., but no 'kisses' for me, thanks.

It's been two years since we put down our lab, and yea, the hurt fades with time, but when I got back to the car after the vet put her down, I sobbed for half an hour before I could drive home.  We had a lot of good times with our dog and I remember those too, she was a good girl.

We are not ready to adopt again yet, but I'm sure we will.

Those are great vids, and I too like most dogs better than people, they don't bite as often as people.

But they're probably lovable goof balls that chase things, so they don't really fit over there.

Every Lab I've ever been exposed to has been dumb but lovable.  Also, usually wet if they get outside.

I had submitted a link earlier about pet goldfish reacting to their owners returning from war, but I admit now it just didn't have the same emotional impact and probably deserved to go red.

The sorry was for the word play.

I meant it, though. Dogs make life better. I have one and she has me.

Who said anything about it being sad? What an odd reaction that would be.

No kidding, people cry at weddings right?  It's only sad for a few of the guys and they can't cry...

Brings tears to your eyes to see such unadulterated joy in those dogs and their people.

Ready-set: The sorry was for the word play.

I guess my point was that conjugation isn't word play that one need apologize for.

Semper Fideles - Always (the group of the) Faithful

Semper Fido - Always the Faithful One

You're just going from the plural to the singular.

Again, just because we Moderns don't understand Latin doesn't mean Fido is a meaningless goof name. It's a damn proud one.  (Although the Italianate singer of Latin that I am bristles at the pronunciation: it's "Fee-do".  And "Semper Fee", as in "Fee-deh-les".  Seriously, only Brits sing "Adaystay  F-eye-day-lays" at Christmas, and that lot refers to the Queen as "Reg-eye-na" instead of "Reh-gee-na", so who you gonna listen to?)

powhound: Dogs.....what do you expect? When I come back from vacation my cat cops a huge attitude on me.....turns her back and just meows over her shoulder...really short, vocal meows. Kind of like saying, "leave me again like that and I will claw your eyes out while you are sleeping."

"YOU'RE BACK! YOU'RE BACK!"...(catches self)..."Oh, were you gone? I never even noticed."

Mine come and greet me when I come home...even if they have to jump out the window to do so.
They have access to food, water and shelter, so it's not just "'Bout time you got home...open the damn door, I'm hungry".

They might pee on something however, just to let me know they were NOT amused by my extended absence...

Thing I like about animals is that they only break your heart once.
And they don't do it on purpose.
