Dear The South,

Stop fetishizing yourself.    Your Bubba Bozo self caricature is sad and pathetic.     Your ceaseless wallowing in self pity over a war that happened 150 years ago is as attention-whorey and gluttonous as your hair, your makeup, your jewelery and your food.    No one takes your martyrism seriously because you were fighting for the right to  use other human beings as chattel.    Sorry, other people stopped in to stop you from being evil.   We did it to the Germans too, they got over it.    Please join the rest of us in the 21st Century as soon as you get the opportunity.   In the meantime, start looking into some new cultural tribal traits like modesty, frugality and self-reflection.

I'm calling bullshiat.     We've already seen how this lady fetishizes The South, and there's nothing they love to do more than swap hardship stories of the Reconstruction.

I've spent time in Vietnam, and they don't spend a fraction of the time self pitying their hardships from a  war that ended 35 years ago as the American South do wallowing in a war that happened 150 years ago (and they're still still feeling the daily legacy of Agent Orange and undetonated ordinance).

I'm call bullshiat on this everybody does it nonsense. My parents were born in 1929 and 1933 and grew up in farking Oklahoma and I never heard either of them say a racist thing in my entire life. And NEVER (not once) the N word. My old man would have shut me down I had ever talked like that.

My mother (rest in peace, Mom) would tell you all that only ignorant people who don't know any better and lack manners would use that kind of talk.

Then she'd wash your mouth out with soap.

Look, at some point in their lives, EVERYBODY has used a racial slur. Including Blacks.

That's the way the cookie crumbles and there just aint much anyone can friggin' do about it.

Raised in the 50's and 60's, I certainly knew and used racial slurs and I also knew of black folks using racial slurs against whites. Then again, we had racial slurs for every race, including my own.

In my day, we mainly had white trash. You should have heard what they were called, but that's different because their skin was white. Now we throw about the term 'Trailer Park Trash' like it's a common denominator and no one goes all ballistic and starts suing right and left or publicly harassing and damning the one who said it.

Man! Back in the early part of the 1900's, you'd find insulting names for the Irish, The Poles, The Italians, The Chinese, Northerners, Southerners and everyone else.

Most folks over 50 have used racial slurs in their lives because they were born during a time when such a thing was common and just was.

People born in the deep south have a list of names for white people born in the North -- the majority insulting on some level -- but no one gives a shiat. Hop on over to Texas and listen to the assorted names for Mexican Illegals and even the Legals.

Drop in on a couple of random Indian Reservations and find out what they call the white man behind his back.

However, since these racial slurs concern the African/American race, they're 'evil' and 'despicable' and the utterer is just one step above a sex offender!

Grow the freak up! So long as we have different races there's going to be racial insults. If not racial insults, then religious ones. If not those, then insults concerning the country someone was born in or the language they speak. (I, personally, despise the dialect commonly used in New Orleans. I aint real happy with the true, Bostonian one either. Then there's one area where folks like to say 'ay-yuh' a lot and if you've ever been to Minnesota for any length of time, the common dialect there can set your teeth on edge.)

What Paula Deen did is no worse than most other folks and certainly not worth making a huge shiat-storm in the media about it.

Besides, the Civil War wasn't that long ago. Plus, every documentary channel on TV just has to produce lengthy historical episodes on it. Collectors pay ridiculous amounts for rusty Civil War scrap and there are the yearly reenactments -- with some enthusiasts copying the time right down to home spun uniforms and not bathing for a week or two to get that authentic smell of a front line soldier.

I don't think any other nation has such reenactments concerning any civil war they went through. Vietnam has turned it's war into a tourist attraction, where fat Americans get stuck in the mouths of the tunnels they were famous for.

Yeah. racial slurs are inappropriate, but unless the one using them is an absolute fanatic and died-in-the-wool racist, there's no freakin' reason to turn it into a media circus, blowing it so out of proportion that it nearly becomes unrecognizable.

fickenchucker: It's 2013--when the hell is everyone going to just stop talking about race?  Maybe I'm naive, but who really gives a shiat these days?

Do well to your family and neighbors and stop acting like color matters.

Let's try pretending rape doesn't happen and see if rapists stop raping.

I don't own a TV and I'm not sure who she is, but that comment about her great grand father was interesting.

The way I see it, he is pretty lucky he had the liberty to shoot himself in his own barn after all his slaves left. I can't begin to fathom the pain, frustration, and anger that slavery engendered, but I am sure the old timer was lucky they just left.

rnld: 9/11 was almost 12 years ago.  Shouldn't we just get over it?

Yes, along with certain laws and attitudes that came in the wake of it.

Haha, reminds me of that scene from Spike Lee's "Four LIttle Girls" where he is interviewing an elderly George Wallace, and he calls over his black "best friend." Calls him over twice to show him off to the cameras.

The look on his "best friend's" face is priceless. ir ls-george-wallace.mp4/view

Philip Francis Queeg: I'm sure Hollis was thrilled to be told that he couldn't be seen if he stood against a dark background.

I can see why her employees might be suing her.

She's not racist, some of her best employees are black!

I was so embarrassed for the guy.

So her great grand pappy bought his way out of the fighting, then killed himself when he found out he had to work? No wonder she's so uppity.
/ It's a wonder that this woman didn't go into politics instead of cooking.

The only thing I have to add is that whenever someone says "intrical" when they mean "integral," I want to punch them in the throat.

"Intrical" is not a farking word, you illiterate old biddy!
